Longiron Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Quote To prevent the pilot from exceeding a 17° angle of attack, the control column incorporated a "knuckle rapper" which would strike the pilot's knuckles as the limit was approached In soviet Russia... plane is hit you! 3 2
Dragon1-1 Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Well, it's probably mechanically simpler than a stick shaker. It's the same idea, but cheaper to implement. Would be interesting if we could get this to work on a DIY MiG-23 stick. 2
Mars Exulte Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 In theory should be pretty simple, though require some of that DCS Bios stuff. If Simshaker can make AoA vibrate a motor, you can, too. Extra points if you make it hit hard enough to bruise 2 Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2

OverStratos Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 (edited) This is not present on any MiG-23 I know, being MF, ML/MLA or MLD maybe on older variants Edited March 20, 2021 by OverStratos
G.J.S Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 If the aircraft is close or exceeding the AoA limit, then the stick is likely full back. If there is something that ‘raps the knuckles’ of the pilot, then whatever does this has to extend out quite some way in order to connect with the pilots pinkies. Pretty sure this is only metaphorical! You really wouldn’t want anything impinging on the movement of the stick. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
portman Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 The american Red Eagle pilots (Constant Peg program) had this system in their MiG-23MS and called it "knuckle rapper". It (gently) rapped their knuckles when they exceeded the maximum angle of attack (depending on the wing sweep angle). In later MiG-23 variants, it was replaced by a "stick stopping device" (SOUA). You can see it on the picture, it's the foam rubber coated thingy on the braking lever (it moves independently from the lever though). 8 Mancher zum Meister sich erklärt, dem nie das Handwerk ward gelehrt!
