So im currently making a single player mission.. the objective is to destroy a group of ships, ive been testing damage output of weapons vs ships and it seems even the small FF type ships and DD have around 1000 hit points or so..

This cant be right, its this being worked on or is this just DCS ships ?

Seems pointless attacking a FF even when dropping a GBU 24 doesn't destroy a small FF ship ???

Ive decided too use triggers to help kill the ships as I think a 2000IB bomb would devastate even a destroyer type ship.

And the Harpoon/mavericks damage vs ships is laughable..

To be honest, if you'd done a quick search for this you'd have seen just how many times this issue has been raised in the past. There are posts about it going back years.

In my opinion there's nothing more to be said, there's no way they aren't aware of how bad the damage modelling is (ED plays the game too, you'd assume). I hope it's included as part of the revamp of damage modelling more widely, but I can't see it coming this year. Having said that, destroying ships as part of the dynamic campaign will be such a hassle until it's fixed.

This ship which is a LST took four 2,000lbs bombs and it took over and hour to actually start sinking.

these types of ships are usually less armoured to allow for the extra weight for tanks and to still keep up with the fleet.

So with a well placed bomb sure you could hurt and if super lucky sink a warship but unlikely you will sink it with one bomb Just like a tank if you can kill the running gear doesn’t mean it can’t keep shooting. Some ships in history have taken massive beatings and even direct torpedo hits which are far far far more devastating then a 2,000lbs bomb and they have still managed to sail back to a port. The German Tirpitz took 2x 12,000lbs bombs to stop it in its tracks.

SINKEX exercises have ships in their most survivable configurations, in actual combat scenarios you'll find that these ships seem a lot less survivable - the only real outlier I know of is the INS Sahand - but even though that outright refused to sink - there was nothing left, the ship was borderline unrecognisable, it had essentially been razed.

For instance Oliver Hazard Perry frigates are notorious at SINKEX for just soaking up an ungodly amount of munitions and not sinking - and yet the USS Stark in the Gulf War only took 2 Exocets to not only be completely mission killed, but also to develop a significant list - it's likely incredible actions of the damage control teams is what saved it. And one of the exocets didn't even go off - but the fire it caused from the remainder of its propellant was enough to mission kill the ship. And here both Exocets hit high in the hull, near the superstructure, at least a deck above the waterline.

HMS Coventry took 3x Mk83 equivalents in the Falklands War, the 3rd of which didn't explode - the ship capsized and sank within 20 minutes.

And the Tirpitz was one of the most heavily armoured ships in WWII, and the most heavily armoured ship of the Kreigsmarine - no wonder it took 2 tallboys.
