Steel Jaw Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Got my hands on one recently and was surprised to see it was all metal except the throttles where TM cheaped and made them of plastic. And they feel a little flimsy. To owners is this a problem, how have these plastic throttles faired? crash test pilot Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 The throttle is the best part of the set imho. 1
Oozler Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Work great - very happy. Must say the Win-wing F18 set looks sexy too
Steel Jaw Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 Maybe the plastic is why I find the Warthog on sale used alot. One wonders why then it remains so expensive (overpriced). speed-of-heat Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 I have had my throttle for the best part of 6 years, no problems there, and the gimbal on my joystick broke, mainly because I was using a stick extension, and was over enthusiastic... my replacement is over a year old, and I have no stickiness... Fri13 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Thrustmaster can ask a lot in the past as Warthog HOTAS was the king of joysticks just 10 years ago. Others were Logitech or Saitek gaming devices and all futuristic ones. Only one manufacturer challenged them and it was CH. But put "all metal" warthog and difference was clear in feeling (but not technicality). Since then we have seen others to come, VKB and Virpil and some other less known manufacturers. More from a passion to hobby than to make profit in mass production. And we can see that difference. Thrustmaster still maintains that status, where it is not required to be challenged. Like from the begin Warthog HOTAS supported different grips to stick, where those were? Not anywhere until ED made a F/A-18C! i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Dudikoff Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) I've bought a used Warthog Throttle 4-5 years back (and not in a mint condition) and have had no issues with it. The throttle handles can move a few mm left and right, but it's not noticeable when flying, no problem there. In fact, I find it pretty well made and would only replace it with WinWing Super Taurus because that one is a unique throttle set mimicking the movement available to the real one. Maybe VKB will come with something special, but by the time they finally decided to release that, I will probably have gotten WW already. minimi66 Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Had my Warthog HOTAS since Oct 2011, it has never let me down in any way. Tiny amount of movement (1-2mm if that?) in the throttle but never notice it when flying. I now have the F/A-18C Add on Grip too, that too is a great piece of kit, only complaint is the SCS can be a bit "sticky" at times. Personally i want the authenticity of the TM products in that they are physically pretty much identical to their real world counterparts. I still wouldn't trade my setup right now for any other manufacturer. The only thing i wish is that i'd never sold my TM Cougar years ago!! Especially now they can be modded to USB and work seamlessly with DCS. Been trying to get the Cougar throttle on eBay as recently as last week but got outbid! Will keep trying. Just my 2 cents..... Chunk Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 No issues here with the throttles either. There is a some play in there, but I think that has to do with overall construction, not just because they’re plastic. 1
