Loaded_Dice Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Hi to all I have been planning to upgrade my flight sim setup with a set of rudder pedelas but I still can't decide between the two options available on the market. They both sell for about the same price so this is not an issue. I have only tried the CH Pro Pedals myself at a friends house on FS2004, and they work fine but the resistance they provide seems too low. On the other hand I have been reading some things that the Saitek pedals are prone to jamming in some cases. So can you tell me what are your first hand experiences and what do you suggest would be a better choice having Lock On in mind as the main application of use. Thanks in advance :)
FA_Crazy-Canuck Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I have the Saitek Pedals. I have not had any problems with them. The tension dial is a nice feature. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Id get the CH rudders before I get the Saitek versions. Not only are they slightly cheaper, but they are far more reliable from what I hear. Frazer Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I've owned the CH rudders and now the Saitek's, for sure the Saitek owns the CH rudders! The Saitek has a wider foot base, tension control, metal foot pedals AND they are cheaper! Don't hesitate, you can't go wrong with the Saitek Pro Pedals! Loaded_Dice Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks guys. I have finally made up my mind :D. I will be going for the Saitek ones, esspecially after reading the review on SimHQ which confirmes that the Saitek pedals offer greater resistance compared to CH products which was my greatest complain. I just hope they will last more than my old X45 which broke after only some 1.5 year of use .
Vekkinho Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hello Loaded Dice, I can only back You up on that Saitek decision. I'm using Pro flight rudders since they appeared but I never had any rudders before so can't make any comparisons. But Saitek works great here, easily programmable and pretty wide in base which allows me to fly LOFC with centered stick. I didn't like CH rudders because it seems so narrow! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 FWIW, the CH peddals are modelled closely to resemble rudder pedals in actual aircraft. They are just like the brake and gas pedals in most cars. But dont listen to me, Im only an A&P mechanic. :| Intel 13900k @ 5.8ghz | 64gb GSkill Trident Z | MSI z790 Meg ACE | Zotac RTX4090 | Asus 1000w psu | Slaw RX Viper 2 pedals | VPForce Rhino/VKB MCE Ultimate + STECS Mk2 MAX / Virpil MongoosT50+ MongoosT50CM | Virpil TCS+/ AH64D grip/custom AH64D TEDAC | Samsung Odyssey G9 + Odyssey Ark | Next Level Racing Flight Seat Pro | WinWing F-18 MIPS | No more VR for this pilot.

AlphaOneSix Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Every helicopter I have ever been in has fairly wide-spaced pedals. The CH pedals are way too close together as far as I am concerned. I had the CH Pro pedals for many years, and they worked fine, but I didn't care for how closely they were spaced. They may be just right for a Cessna or a Piper, but for most military aircraft, they are just too close together. P.S. I am also an A&P mechanic.
hitman Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 You should try the Saitek pedals :music_whistling: Ill go with CH myself. Im not spending more money on something that will probably fail along the way. They are also not as programmable as the CH rudders...you can ask RuggButt on that. One of our instructors here has an experimental helicopter in the hangar for us to gawk at. The rudder pedals are not sparated by more than 3-4 inches apart, which is accurate with the CH pedals. As for spacing on military a/c, Im not going to fly them anytime soon, but I am preparing for the real deal for after I graduate. I should say I am A&P pending. Another 3 months to go. hitman Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Not differential?!! AFAIK most modern military aircraft have differential rudder pedals just like Saitek Pro Rudders do! We have 4 aircraft here at the school, none of the rudder pedals have toe brakes on the pedals. Matter of fact, the rudder pedals are just 2 pieces of flat steel welded together with a small steel pipe. They arent pedals per-se. Ill see if I can find a pic of some later today. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Well all other discussions aside I've owned the Saitek pedals since right after release and never had a single problem. Regardless if they aint the real thing its a quality product and I've used and abused them with no issues. I like the wide spacing (doesnt have to be real), I like the tension, and I like the toe brakes (real or not). Its cool to have brakes mapped to your feet so I can free up the button for something else. CH makes quality gear too but the both sets are good and it comes down to a matter of personal preference! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
RedTiger Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I'm a Saitek pedal owner. Yeah, I'd probably bet money on the CH ones being higher quality since I chucked my x52 pro in the closet in favor of a CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle, however the Saitek ones are probably the only ones I could use comfortably. I don't exactly have little stick legs and having to sit with my feet that close together for hours would be a bad idea. Even with Saitek's I have to take a break or even take my feet off them while I'm not in combat. They do have some problems. Mine must be from the first batch -- those are prone to slip out of alignement if you put too much weight on them (in other words, don't adjust your sitting position by using the pedals as resistance. Put your feet on the floor! ) This has only happened twice, but fixing it entails unscrewing about eleventy-billion screws to get the damn thing open. The newer ones are supposed to have this problem fixed. The next set of pedals I'm buying will be CH ones. I'm just going to have to get used to the close spacing.
