djliquidice Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Hi Folks, I'm running into a weird problem where if I record a game via VR, changing the camera angles changes the outcome of the replay. If I just literally press F4, the outcome of the simulation is not as I originally experienced it. is there a setting that I'm missing? Many thanks!
Ignition Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Replays don't work, its a broken feature for 10+ years now? Record your flight and/or use Tacview. 2
razo+r Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I dont think it is necessarily bound to camera, although that might needs a bit more testing. I've had it several times that the AI simply does something else than what it did in the actual flight. But as said, tracks are broken anyway.

If you really want to have a precise replay, I read somewhere that it can be done by having a standalone server, and use the file on that server to replay. Do some search around this, you will probably find it. 1
djliquidice Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 Thanks for weighing in. I'm glad to know that it's not my setup/environment alone, but saddened to hear that this feature is not working. @Frag, thanks for the hint. I'll look for workarounds. I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how others get such good footage of their gameplay w/ this feature being fundamentally broken. Yay software! 9 hours ago, Ignition said: Replays don't work, its a broken feature for 10+ years now? Record your flight and/or use Tacview. This won't work. can't change camera angles and you can get better quality with replays in full screen than you can using VR goggles. :0\
Worrazen Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) If nothing else you may just found the cause of the bug that's causing this long time issue, but perhaps not the root cause though and/or just one of them. I'm not too familiar with this systems in general to know or have any idea why things turn out different, some factors are not being recorded that then affect the replay ... I'm not sure. draconus Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It gets better when you know what it is and how it works. The track system records the player inputs and mission triggers in time. All the rest is recalculated each time you run the track. So in certain situations the track can be totally different because it depended on random generated numbers. It certainly does not depend on the camera view. The shorter the track the better. The movies are prepared from short recorded actions not whole missions. Most accurate tracks come from server track as it works a bit different but it won't give you cockpit view. All in all depending on the module and situation the track can be simply bugged and that's known issue. It is however invaluable tool for the devs support and bug hunting. Fri13 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Aaaand this is reason why requiring a track file for a bug report doesn't usually work as the track file on your computer can show the bug, but it shows nothing wrong on the developer computer. This is why every bug report should be detailed by the steps how to produce it so that bug tester can actually understand that what is tried to be done and then repeat it various means. And regardless that, it is better to have a video recording of the gameplay so it can be seen without relaying to track system or to someone else testing it. The track system is at best for generating some fancy movies and other things that does not require repeatable action in accuracy. It can't even be used for a game save feature where you would take control from moment you want to continue the game, as there is possibility that doesn't happen properly as replay system doesn't work right. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
