Hello everyone, hello my sweetest virtual plane developer.

I have a lot of fun with the Swedish beast and the good old F-14B.

There is one feature i really miss for the iceman ai. It would be nice to have the option to deactivate iceman. So if i fly a circle with the pilots autopilot engaged, i like to jump to the Rio and push some buttons, but without that iceman take controll and fly torwards. I think i have enough time to do everything i like in the Rio cockpit, while the plane flys circles with the pilots autopilot engaged. For me the pilots autopilot is enough to keep the plane calm and do the stuff i like do to in the rio cockpit. It's annoying that iceman flys toward everytime i change the seat and he mess my relaxed cycle pattern.

I recall an "orbit" option was planned for Iceman at some point.

I personally wish Iceman would operate like a full AI pilot in the regard that he would follow waypoints and do whatever the mission editor has assigned for your flight.

Unfortunately that is not possible, or in other words: it would cost us too much effort for an else not planned feature. this is why we want to implement orbiting for him, so that you can do that, and also fly to steerpoint. 🙂

Well orbiting and the ability to fly to a steerpoint is very nice too. For me, with my idea in mind, it's close to what i want iceman to do. I think that will improve my relationship with him😄

Thank you for your clear answer. I love the work you do!

It is our pleasure, as always. 🙂

So long as the orbit is INTO the TGP then it's all we need.

You will be able to tell him to orbit left or right.

I wonder whether you have changed your plans on it? It would be really useful feature for many users I believe. I also wonder if it's possible to configure Iceman to not to disable afterburner after I jumped into RIO cockpit? It's really important when you have spent a lot of time and fuel to reach 1.6M speed and Iceman just burn this speed when I jump on RIO seat since he doesn't use afterburner.

I can assure you he does use afterburner.  I have gone from 350 on the deck to M1.5+ at 40,000ft with Iceman.

So he keeps afterburner running when you jump into RIO seat for you?

He will default to cruise speed upon switching, so if first thing you do is command him the speed you desire, he will light the cans and you shouldnt lose much of your gained speed.

He doesn't light the cans even if I'm flying at 1.4M and tell him to increase speed for 200 IAKTS.

Iceman was flying in this mission from 00:33 (after gear up and flaps up) to 16:39.  I switch seats at ~250kts and tell him to increase by 100 IIRC.  As he hits 350 I tell him to set altitude to 30,000.  that did not go the best, but he got there eventually.  Then I gave him a +200kt command once he re-reached at 350. then I gave him a command to 40,000 and then a +5,000 which I corrected back to a 40,000ft command when he was bleeding all our speed. We were not recovering speed fast enough so I gave him a command to a lower alt.  with our speed back up I commanded a higher alt again and we ended up at 42,000ft at which point I gave him a series of small altitude increases to get up to 46,000ft at 1.72M.  I was testing using Iceman for a whole intercept mission.  I had to take over when I realized I couldn't ask him to cue up the missiles.  Needless to say, he was in AB for the entire time from 250kt on the deck to 46,000ft at 1.7M.

Late followup question on this topic.

Is it possible to let Iceman follow an AI lead aircraft?

aka - a flight of two Tomcats

Diamond-1-1 is an AI crew

Diamond-1-2 is a player aircraft, where you jump into the Rio seat once airborne
