Licketysplit Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 While dogfighting with the AI Anton in single-player, I became suspicious the Anton was catching up to the Spit when, according the max level performance for the two a/c, the Spit should not be caught during level flight at altitudes greater than 4000 feet. Gathered data on both the Spit and 190 in the Mission Editor to compare max level performance and came up with familiar looking results. At roughly 22,000ft, max TAS for the Spit is 379mph (330kts) vs. 365mph (317kts) for the Anton. Ran both aircraft in the Mission Editor and flew the Spit directly in front of the AI Anton at 22,000ft. The Anton speed was set to 317kts TAS and configured as a Task = Fighter Sweep to encourage it to chase. According to the DCS model for the non-AI Anton, the a/c should not go faster. However, the Anton speeds up to 341kts TAS to overtake the Spit and starts shooting. I couldn’t find any other post covering the topic and wonder if anyone else has had similar observation. 2
Walshtimothy Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Weve noticed the spit seems a bit slower than advertised at most altitudes ... hard to say if it was weather issue but even pushing the engine hard struggling to achieve max.speed , usually 310 to 320 mph level flight . 1 walshtimothyWW2 virtual flier - currently playing on 4ya ww2 - youtube channel here https://www.ww2adinfinitum.blog - https://projectoverlord.co.uk/
grafspee Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) Spit is a bit slower at SL, but as soon as you got higher it is faster. I advice to test it with player flown Fw190. AI often do weird things it may including flying faster then supposed to fly. Ercoupe Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 The trouble with flying against A.I. is that they fly perfectly. When we fly we may be using input controls that slow us down a bit. We probably don't always trim our airplane out for the fastest flying. But the A.I. do. I think that has a lot to do with it. Their turns are perfect, they never stall....etc. Flying against a human opponent to test it out is a good idea. 1
ED Team NineLine Posted July 22, 2021 ED Team Posted July 22, 2021 We need tracks on this, and yes would be better to go Player vs Player for comparison. Thanks. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

I don't know what is in idea of running spitfire away from Anton, just shot it down System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
Ercoupe Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 "They fly perfect, but at same time AI sucks at high alt. I don't know what is in idea of running spitfire away from Anton, just shot it down" Yeah, they're my favorite opponents, actually. I think that the 109K is a bit ridiculous, but maybe I'm wrong. It seems too fast, too maneuverable and climbs too quickly. I'm not an expert on the airplane, though, so maybe that's the way it was. But I've found myself thinking, "If the 109K was this good, what did the Luftwaffe need jets for!?"
Ercoupe Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 The K was fast though. 20MPH faster than the Gustav. I would like to have seen the G, of course. It was built in the thousands, as opposed to the 700 or so copies of the Kurfurst. And no K's over Normandy as we know. They didn't even begin to roll off the assembly lines until November of '44. But, sorry. I'm derailing the thread. It's about the 190A.

Bf-109 is very light and outputs 1800hp it will climb super fast. System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
Ercoupe Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Graf, "strip K-4 from MW-50?" Give it a less powerful powerplant? I will look into that. Thanks.
