Roosterfeet Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Any tips for navigating using bullseye as a reference in the hornet? For instance if I have a waypoint at bullseye in a mission and the mission directs me to a bearing and distance from bullseye, does the hornet have some tools that I might have overlooked or do I need to eyeball it from the hsi or sa page? 5800x3D, rtx4070, Quest3 (sometimes)
Tholozor Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 First ensure your waypoint at the bullseye is set properly with the 'A/A WP' option on the HSI -> DATA -> WYPT menu on the left side of the page. The SA page should give you the bulls relation to the cursor position in the top left data block under the MAP option. Another option you could try is to use the OAP function and create an offset from the bullseye waypoint. 1 1 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
Habu_69 Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Reinforce the radar picture by constantly updating your geographic situational awareness. Then I try to visualize a map that includes 3 locations: the bullseye in the center, my aircraft location and heading with respect to the bullseye, and the target location based on bearing/range from the bullseye. Then I can estimate/visualize the target's general bearing and distance relative to my own position. Becomes second nature with practice. 1
CBStu Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Somewhat related question. When looking at the F10 map is there a way to get a compass rose to show up and maybe be able to center it over the plane symbol. Currently I just guess at a heading assuming the map is north is up. Most of the airfields in the Caucuses map have tacan but the PG map has few if any tacan.
Roosterfeet Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I had no idea about the A/A WP function. The new offset waypoint looks really useful too but I couldn't set it to be greater than 66nm from my waypoint for some reason. CBStu, there is a "show ruler" button at the top of the F10 map. When that button is on you can right click anywhere on the map and drag to get a bearing and distance from where you clicked. 5800x3D, rtx4070, Quest3 (sometimes)
Recluse Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 And once you select an AA WPT to correspond with Bullseye, your AA Radar and SA page will show the Bearing and Range from Bullseye of your own ship, the target if any, and the position of the TDC cursor which helps tremendously with interpreting or making Bullseye calls: Here's a video: 1 1
