IG with TY Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Hey! so recently i got the tomcat and have been trying to learn how to fly it. I am able to start it up and takeoff and land. but when i try to takeoff and then go into combat i cant shoot missiles. i think i may be missing something in startup but ive watched so many tutorial videos and still can figure it out! when i pull the trigger on my joystick (it is bound correctly to the "trigger" slot) i hold for about three seconds and then nothing happens! master arm IS on so i dont understand what im missing. i think im just not starting up correctly.
Wingmate Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Make sure you are in Air to Air HUD mode, have a weapon type selected, and that you turned MSL Prep and SW Cool on long enough before firing for the missiles to be ready.

Roosterfeet Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Chuck's F-14 guide is a great reference. https://www.mudspike.com/chucks-guides-dcs-f-14b-tomcat/ Once you get the missile off the rail, it's essential that you maintain a good lock until impact with the the AIM-7 or a few seconds before impact with the AIM-54. Good rules of thumb are to keep your altitude below the target's altitude as much as possible and, if inside of 10 miles, keep your target in the boresight zone until impact (diagram in chuck's guide pg. 364). This may allow you to save the shot if lock is lost when in close. If all else fails, post a track file. 5800x3D, rtx4070, Quest3 (sometimes)
captain_dalan Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Might help if you describe the entire procedure you are performing, from cold start to unsuccessful firing of the missiles, step by step, click by click, so we can help you troubleshoot the issue. Gun Jam Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 (edited) do you see "HOT TRIG" light illuminated? Its just to the bottom left of "gun rate" high / low selector on the front dash. If hot trig is not illuminated there could be many issues why (master arm not on / no solution and or no enemy target all the way to missile isn't selected. and cooling and prep are off Edited July 22, 2021 by Gun Jam
