Screen black on startup

Decided to switch from steam to dcs stand alone. Erased steadm including save game file and when i boot it up just goes to black screen

Ouch, there was no need to delete your Saved Games/DCS... folder. It contained all your custom controls.

Anyway, what's done is done (unless it's still in your Windows recycle bin...).

 

Usually, when the game starts, it creates its own Saved Games/DCS... folder it this doesn't exist already. If it is present, please attach your Saved Games/DCS.../Logs/dcs.log file (may appear as "dcs").

And also his Pilot's Logbook and Campaign Status.

I renamed it to temp so still have a bunch of stuff.

Please try a "slow" DCS repair. It should work (see here, same symptoms).
