Hmm I'm flying el tiger at FL250 full afterburner and can't get over mach 1. only loadout a single aim9 on right wing. is this performance correct? shown in screenshot is my max speed I'm getting.

I show with just the tip rails at 13,3 klbs the F-5E-1 with J85-GE-21 on JP-4 fuel can do on standard day about M1.4 at 25 kft pressure altitude. Your speed is about the MIL thrust maximum. Weight and drag can have a significant impact so I dunno.

thanks, yeah i thought she was supposed to be faster. i'm low fuel and only 1 aim but you can see from the screenshot that's all she's got. i held it there for about 30 seconds and she did not increase in speed. i had fuel tanks on earlier but jettisoned them after using them, but it's like it thinks they're still attached

Are you sure you are in burner? Check the external view?

Maybe check rudder trim since you only have 1 wingtip. That seems likely to be minor though. Generally though dive to get through the transonic region if needed and then try leveling at 25k.

Afterburner can fail to light. Reduce throttle, then engage AB again.

When I can't get the speed up in this thing, it's usually due to flaps, (his are up), or the speed brakes. 🤦‍♂️

well can't check for speed brake now. but i'll try to recreate everything again and see if i can reproduce

Yes this is a good tip. Remember that the speed brakes are extended when doing a cold start. It is easily forgotten to retract them... And you could be extending them by accident as well of course... With this loadout passing mach 1 (and reaching Mach 1.4)should be no problem in level flight at FL250.

I did 1.3 mach after I  climbed to 25,000 and dropped the center tank ("instant action", F-5E Free Flight). Could barely hit 1.0 mach before the jettison.
