upyr1 Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 We have the World War II Marianas on the way and two Normany/channel maps we really need some ships especially battleships 12

4H_Ccrashh Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Not just World War II, We have an cold war carrier (Forrestal) with no escorts. Perry frigate is mid 70's and that's about it. At one time there was a mod called Naval Mod Collection. It would do in a pinch. Unfortunately the US battleships, cruisers and destroyers no longer work with the current version. Even has a Spruance class destroyer. 1
Ishigami Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 (edited) True. But I would argue destroyer, cruiser and aircraft carrier would be more important than battleships. And I don't know about you guys but I find current close range AA very accurate and effective. As it currently is I somewhat doubt I would have much fun attacking e.g. Baltimore class cruiser... I once setup 4 active Type VII in a port to attack with a group of Mosquitos with what the game calls average skill level. I very soon regretted that as 4 Type 7 right next to one anther have fierce AA protection. Imagine a Battleship like Yamato where you looking down on 188 AA guns... If they bring in more heavily armed units I would like to see more control over the skill level of AA guns. Edited March 19, 2023 by Ishigami
4H_Ccrashh Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 What I'm looking for is immersion. It would be nice to look out from the deck of the Forrestal and see a Belknap cruiser, Knox class frigates, the USS Longbeach. Period ships from the 60's and 70's. 1

Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club (US Navy from 1965 to 1975) I brought them up here I know the ships you mentioned served until the 1990s. Immersion and mission types Edited April 24, 2023 by upyr1

Walshtimothy Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 @BIGNEWY will there be any shipping updates for the ww2 assets pack ? corvettes , destroyers , battleships , carriers ... n2 really needs this . cheers. 3 walshtimothyWW2 virtual flier - currently playing on 4ya ww2 - youtube channel here https://www.ww2adinfinitum.blog - https://projectoverlord.co.uk/
Porkchopper Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 I came here looking for some ship mods to make the new Normandy map feel more convincing. Even a simple destroyer capable of providing gunfire support against targets on the beach would add soooo much atmosphere. 3
Walshtimothy Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 agreed , these are a major omission imho 2 walshtimothyWW2 virtual flier - currently playing on 4ya ww2 - youtube channel here https://www.ww2adinfinitum.blog - https://projectoverlord.co.uk/

Komet_82 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 After 100 of hours pure airbattles in the spit I recognized that the ships are missing, what a pitty. Please add battle shipps on german and allied side Thanks
Slippa Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 There are a few mods I think but we could do with some shipping, definitely. The stuff in those pics from Walshtimothy would be good. Bring more to N2 as well as the forgotten Channel map.

These ships would make up a Fast Carrier Task Group (capable of about 28 knots or faster). --a destroyer model or two: I suggest the Fletcher class and Sumner class. (also, Gleaves class and Gearing class, later on) --a cruiser model or two: I suggest the Cleveland class and Atlanta class...although Brooklyn class and some heavy cruiser classes would be nice, too. The more the better, but at least one model. --a light carrier model: I suggest the Independence class (built on the Cleveland class hulls) --Essex class carrier, of course. Already in development by a 3rd Party, I believe. --battleship model: I suggest one of North Carolina class, South Dakota class or Iowa class. However, each of these battleships mounts over 100 guns! That might be a challenge for our computers, not sure. I think this type of Task Group would be best to begin with...so we can have carrier-to-carrier battles. And then, to make them function in the Task Group (for air defense, at least), the 5-inch, 40mm and 20mm guns and gun directors must be simulated...but here's where we, as players, can get into the action aboard these ships. Being able to man a gun director or 20mm gun mount and participate in the air defense...and in VR. I don't think it would be beyond DCS' capacity. Pretty much ALL of these ships used these same three gun and director systems in the 1943-1945 timeframe. Once developed in DCS, they should be good for all these US Navy ships. See my other post, linked below... Edited January 22 by Andrew8604 Add some points.

My top choice for a heavy cruiser class would be the Baltimore-class Light due to being an Okie the Clevlands are on my list due to Oklahoma City Atlanta would be interesting since they were designed for the AA mission. Brooklyn- the last one in service was the one sunk by the Royal Navy in the Fauklandwar General Belgrano if I remember correctly 2 hours ago, Andrew8604 said: --a light carrier model: I suggest the Independence class (built on the Cleveland class hulls) --Essex class carrier, of course. All of them were activated at least once in the Cold War. As for Japanese Battleships you would need the Yamatos and the Kongos 2 hours ago, Andrew8604 said: I think this type of Task Group would be best to begin with...so we can have carrier-to-carrier battles. Andrew8604 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 But rather than make just AI operated ships, I think it would be worthwhile for ED or 3rd party to model the Mk37 & MK51 directors and the 20mm mounts so that we can operate them in first person and participate in the air defense of these ships. I mean, I used to set up missions where I'd have 24 to 32 Fw190's, disguised as Zeroes, attack with 250kg bombs, in flights of 4. Sometimes 2 or 3 groups attacking in quick succession from different directions, and a couple Ju-88's, as Betty's, making torpedo runs down low: attacking my group of 2 Samuel Chase's and 2 LST's and maybe a couple Fletcher mods. It would get pretty intense, not unlike the Pacific battle scenes in WWII combat film footage, but with all the gunfire sounds and in VR, like you're really on the ship. But now it seems that you can't occupy a gun mount on any ships in DCS anymore. As it was, in VR, all I could do was sight down the barrel and watch for tracers or the puffs of the 3-inch and 5-inch shells and try to correct the lead. Once every 100 shells I'd get a hit. 2
dscalora Posted March 28 Posted March 28 We need the USS Laffey (DD-724). She participated in the Normandy invasion as well as action in the Philippine Sea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Laffey_(DD-724)
julpeuz Posted April 1 Posted April 1 At least we’ll have the Iowa class battleship, Cleveland cruisers and Fletcher destroyers in the pacific assets pack. I wish they would make them available in the European assets pack as well so they could be added to the ETO campaigns we have. i7 13700KF - RTX 4080 OC - 32GB 5600 DDR5 - Samsung 980 Pro 2TB Virpil CM3 base - Virpil WarBRD grip w/ 30cm extension - Virpil Control Panel 3 - Virpil Interceptor rudder pedals w/ damper - Quest 3 P51D - P47D - Mosquito - Spitfire MkIX - Bf109K4 - FW190A8 - M2000C - F86 Normandy 2 - The Channel - WWII assets pack
Bowie Posted May 2 Posted May 2 While doing some PTO research and planning for both the Solomon Islands and the Central/Western Pacific, came across these: 3D models by EletricalFuse - Sketchfab 3D models by maxromash - Sketchfab Beautiful models. (Left mouse rotates, Right mouse translates, wiz wheel zooms) So, how do we get'em in DCS. Add damage map and armament. Bowie
