Channel for least interference, Code to address a specific missile.

In DCS virtually both radar and missiles channels are always the same and unique for the firing unit afaik. Quote Radar and Missile Frequency Selectors The thumbwheels in the upper rightmost part of the DDD panel are used to control the AN/AWG-9 radar emitter’s frequency (13) and the missile control channel used with the AIM-7 and AIM-54 (14). Adjustment of these might be needed to avoid interference from other AN/AWG-9 equipped aircraft or other external sources. The WCS reads the missile channel for the AIM-7 as the missiles are prepared as they need to be tuned and changing the channel after this will not affect a change unless the preparation sequence is restarted. Note Non-functional in DCS currently. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Naquaii Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 In DCS each missile is assigned a target to track. DCS does not model missile channels etc. And afaik there's no reason you should be limited to only one AIM-7 in the air at the same time.
Dragon1-1 Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Considering that it wasn't uncommon to fire multiple missiles at the same target (in case of really early Sparrows on Phantoms, all four of them!) with early Fox 1s, it would be very strange if this wasn't possible. A single Fox 1 would have rather low PK back in the old days. 1
WarthogOsl Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 In Ward Carrol's video about the second Gulf of Sidra incident, he says that the first Sparrow missile gets trashed after the second one is fired, due to the channel issue. I don't really understand why they would design it it like this, though, since you can't track more than one target at a time for a Sparrow anyway. I wonder if he was confusing it with a Phoenix PD-STT launch? It makes sense that there'd me multiple channels for the Phoenix given that you have to be able to communicate with 6 different missiles heading to 6 different targets.
GGTharos Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 ECCM is one easy answer for this. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Naquaii Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I've never seen evidence for neither the AIM-7 or AIM-54 having an issue with supporting multiple missiles with the same STT. You have to realise that comments like that are off the cuff comments that likely have a lot of more behind them than what is apparent and likely unwise to take as absolute truths.
