DBS Mode Image Scale Broken

Changing image scale, by hitting OSB19 or OSB20, as described by Wags at the timestamp in this video, appears to have been broken in a recent update:

Now, hitting OSB 19 or 20, when in a DBS mode, results in the radar automatically going back to "NORM" instead of changing the image scale of the DBS picture, as shown in the video. This happens in both Manual and Auto, and in both DBS1 and DBS2 modes. This is obviously different behavior than what Matt has shown in the video.

This is indeed not working as in the Wag's video. And one more thing: OBS2, auto/manual mode, functionality seems to be turned around (as in video, not sure what's correct). What we have now, seems more natural, so what what we see, its the actual function (if written AUTO, its now at the moment in auto mode, if pressing it, changes to MAN, which means we are now in manual mode.

Same way works EGM and RBM.

Hi all,

I have been informed it is correct in game, the video was done during a early version that has since been tweaked.

When you change manually the radar range and you are in EXP, DBS1, DBS2 radar must come back to NORM expansion.

thanks

So is there is no way to change the scale of a DBS image, as indicated in the video by Wags?

Or is it possible, but the procedure for doing so is just different than what was demonstrated in the video?

Just tried this:  after manually reducing the range, use the pinky switch to expand into back dbs2.  The radar was still looking at where I was before adjusting the range and the image is scaled in as one would expect.

Why would one expect that the DBS modes respond to range scale settings in the first place? To me this feels incorrect, as the range setting only determines the maximum return times for the AG radar image to be displayed on the ground map. The two DBS modes I would expect to have the same scale whatever setting is used for the NORM AG map range. I don't have evidence unfortunately but this is what I feel would be correct based on my understanding of the radar. Maybe Frederf knows more, he seems to have a lot of in-depth insight.

I'm not suggesting or expecting anything per se. I'm pointing out that the video I shared shows specifically the ability to change the image scale of DBS modes.

I'm simply wondering if this was something that was introduced into the game and was completely removed, or has the procedure for doing it changed from what was demonstrated in the video by Wags.

DBS1 patch size (miles x miles) is based on scale option. That may not be the same as resolution (feet per pixel). One of the reasons for the 1500' staple is how dynamic the image sizing can be.

lethal205, the "why would one expect" wasn't meant as an offense if this is how you understood it - sorry if you have read it this way. I just really couldn't belief this is how the real system would work.

Thanks for clarifying, Frederf. This is indeed different to what I expected. So, from what I now read in the public documents that I have flying around, the DBS1 will always be the same patch size as EXP, which is 3.5nm x 3.5nm at 10nm range setting and 21nm x 21nm at 80nm range setting. The DBS1 will provide a higher resolution "up to 24:1" compared to NORM though due to the Doppler-processing applied. The DBS2 is described as "roughly half that size" in nm x nm at even higher resolution "up to 64:1" compared to NORM.

Is there some usability logic for the pilot as to why the mapping goes to NORM when changing the range scale?
