Hi guys,

Quite a newbie in DCS. i wondering whats the best mode for BVR in PvP between RWS and TWS.

RWS avantages ( for me):

  • one tap on TWS UP to bug the target to steer and launch a missile
  • information on when the missile goes pitbull
  • information when the missile is supposed to hit the target
  • ability to bug a second target and  go to DTT and easily switch between the 2 with TMS RIGHT

RWS Drawback ( for me):

  • Radar seems to lose lock more easily
  • cant bug mulitple targets
  • goes automatically in STT when range is below 10 or 5 Nm ( Ennemy is warned)

TWS avantages for me:

  • able to bug several target (even if i find it useless in PvP as its chaotic, you dont have time to bug and launch missiles on 4+ targets

TWS drawback for me:

  • need to press TWS UP "  3 Time before being able to steer and launch a missile
  • no cue on when the missile goes into pitbull

I tend to only use RWS only so far but i would like to know which mode do more expericences F16 pilots use in PvP.

So far i only play on the 4YA PvP server and i found that 20 vs 20 is chaotic as hell especially when nobody uses SRS to communicate.

In a couple of weeks i'll try the GS PvP Server but with up to 64 players, it seems that it would be worst than 4YA

This is not correct. TWS does show you pitbull information. The number red box is the countdown until pitbull.

And time to hit as well. Same as in RWS. But only for the last fired missile (in case if fired multiple).

You can move bug around while missiles are in flight (RWS or TWS) and it will show you the missile info for that target. If multiple missiles are to a single target it will be last fired I think. The colors/symbols for targets when missile goes autonomous should work the same in all modes.

The TMS right (short) shortcut to elevate all TWS tanks to system is helpful.

TWS should have much crappier track compared to SAM. It's good for long range monitoring a busy picture and when shooting at 3+ targets simultaneously, not much else.

Its very likely that SAM would trigger a lock warning in the enemy jet IMO. (SAM is simply a narrow search interleaved with a short STT every so often) (I think the STT duration lasts for more than 1 sec)

In DCS no lock tone occurs when U SAM bug a target. But I think it should.

At the end of the day, DCS is suggesting that the RWRs could not detect a STT / lock within a 1.5 sec timeframe.

If there was absolute realism in this game, I think TWS would be more stealthy than SAM. Since TWS never STTs the target.

[What is STT? STT is when the radar stop scanning and focuses all its energy onto the target. The targets RWR can identify an STT bc the emitter it sees goes from an intermittent tone that comes in and out every few seconds to a static/constant tone]
