FlyingTexan Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'm trying to get back into DCS world. Downloading the 2.7 open beta update from scratch at 1.5MB. This is on a 1G fiber line and while downloading from ED I did a speed test showing another 900mbps up/down roughly. Obviously something isn't right and I think it's a very big issue.
MAXsenna Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) I think it really depends on where you are and the time of day. I always get about 62MBps out of my 500Mbps connection. I never get that when I update MSFS. Edited September 13, 2022 by MAXsenna
SkateZilla Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) 900mbps or 900Mbps, and yess there is a difference. Gigabit = 125 Gigabytes, But Gigabit Internet is usually around 920 Megabytes per second in optimal conditions. Ample System Ram to buffer data as it comes in and a SSD Capable of writing data at those speeds. Fastest Server to consumer Ive seen lately was 745 Megabytes/sec on teamed NICs downloading on steam to an M2 Ultra. That being said, over wifi i was getting 10 to 15mbps, back on cat5e until the cat8 server is installed, and I get nearly 5x that. check your DNS, ISPs sometimes control them and they dont always use the most efficient routing. draconus Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Don't confuse bit [b] with bytes [B] (which is equal to 8 bits). https://www.gbmb.org/gbps-to-mbs 1Gbps net (bits per second are usually referenced in net connection speed) is capable of transfer around 125MB/s of data (bytes per second are prefered to express data transfer in local storage). Ex. I have 20Mbit connection (theoretical), really works as 13Mbit, both DCS and Steam max transfer is 1.5MB/s for me but numerous users show that it is far from ED servers' limits. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Mars Exulte Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 I have 400Mbps and routinely download about 50-60MBs, including with ED. Drive makes a big difference. My old platter drive struggled to reach those kind of speeds (ie it didn't ever) but the NVMe I have now actually boosted my download rates around 50% because it CAN handle those speeds consistently. 1 Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
