SunDown Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Well I finished my simpit. I love it. It's worth the effort. I couldn't have done it without the encouragement from you guys and a great CAD program called Google Sketch It (free). http://forums.eagle.ru/album.php?albumid=150 1 C Co 6-6 CAV USLANTCOM

Teapot Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Looks fabulous! It's very cool banana's! Cheers, "A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft." Allo Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Really cool Sundown. The way you have it set up, you would either have to let go of the stick with you right hand OR reach way over with your left hand to press the keyboard. How do you find keyboard access? Your setup is way cool. I like it. latware Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Nice piece of HW didn't you consider TrackIR or similar device? Or you bet on fixed picture? I don't have a cockpit, just 20" LCD but with TIR3 it's mostly immersive. It should dramatically improve "value added" for you... (well now I noticed you have TIR Pro in your hw list, so simply enjoy :)) Edited January 5, 2009 by latware greetings latware (Intel Core i7-4790K;NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970;2xdisplay 1920x1080;Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar+pedals;TrackIR3 6DOF)
SunDown Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Yep, TrackIR sensor is velcro'd to the left of the "LG" logo on the bottom of the TV. And the keyboard is an issue, but all the real world cyclic and collective commands are programmed to my HOTAS, so just like the real deal, i've got to take my hand off something to click a button in the cockpit, so I have no issue with that. What was killing me was the comms menu. I did find a piece of software called VAC and started using voice commands to drive my comms menu. I dedicated a button on the cyclic to open the radio menu, then I just talk my way through the menu. After some training and taking some time to set it up, it really works great. So right now I'm happy with it. Edited January 5, 2009 by SunDown C Co 6-6 CAV USLANTCOM
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Nice work! I really like the direction you went here very similiar to what I have in mind. Nice wireless key/mouse set up too, I'm really happy with mine! Did you end up having to put the PC inside the pit? http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
rocketeer Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 That is one gigantic tv display! Do you intend to add any switches/buttons? My A10C cockpit thread
SunDown Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) @ Hitch: I built a 8'X6' raised floor so i could run all the cables under it and keep it as clean looking as possible. The PC is located at the rear of the right panel. What kicks a$$ to me is the logitec G51 sub is enclosed in the rear of the left panel. I turn down the center channel and surround and crank up the sub. I have 5.1 headphones (because of the trackclip) but it works out good because all the radio calls and other sounds come through the headphones. The engine and back sounds come through the sub and the two rear speakes located behind me. The sub actually vibrates the simpit. You can feel the engine. That just gives me a woody everytime the Shark cranks up. The wireless keyboard and mouse work out good because when im doing windows updates, or mod installs, I use the 19" monitor and desk set off to the side. @rocketerr: No. I struggled with this for awhile, but here is my logic. The cockpit is clickable. I didn't want to re-invent the wheel. I don't have the know-how to do such a task to begin with. The interface with the sim is the display, controls, and sound. Those are the areas I concentrated on. I have all the dimensions and assembly data in a PDF if anyone wants it. Just post your email if so and I'll get it to you. LazerPotatoe Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Cool pit. I like the dimensions, and the car seat _must_ be more comfortable than a regular office chair. I don't have the know-how to do such a task to begin with. You might want to check out the sim panel tutorial in my sig. It's easier than you might think for a simple panel. I don't have much electronics knowledge, I just know how to solder and a little about how switches work. Anyways, I'm sure the great community here will give you a hand if you decide to take the plunge in the future.
