Funny, they're claiming to have this 'never before seen' Dogfight camera which seems to be nothing other than our well known LOMAC's F5 camera view.

I must say I expected more when Tom Clancy signed his name in!

I liked GRAW, although it's also fictional but it had that lil' something that kept me occupied but flight sims are something I kept using ever since I got me an Amiga back in the '80s and today I'm spoiled with LOFC so can't really judge!

I always keep saying that even SFM aircraft in LOFC behave pretty close to a real thing, compared to other sims that swear total accuracy in FM they sometimes feel like paper planes or planes on rails!

I liked Jane's IAF, I had XP\win98 dual boot system up until recently only to be able to play IAF as it can't decently run with XP. IAF was pretty immersive, although AI opponents and friendlies often seemed as drones programmed to execute given task no matter what but I felt great difference between Kfir and a Ba'az in terms of FM-ing!

Too bad it can't be said for HAWX, dunno what's the AI like though!

my gosh...they got EA-6B....

for those who dont, EA-6B is an Electronic Warfare Aircraft...purpose to jam enemy RF

for Tom Clancy's HAWX.....

wow..i will be blown out yet again, if there was a squadron load out...

let say 4 player coop, 1x EA-6B (for radar blockage), 1x F-35 (for escort), and 2x F-18 (for deep strike)

that would be an untouchable combo, going in to enemy territory..

i have seen IN REAL LIFE, EA-6B would jam for a group of F-16s...I have heard pilots say, they dont even go in to the AOR with out an EA-6B...

that would be even crazy if DCS brought that kind of depth into the game...I like the various load outs for Black shark ..i hope future DCS modules will bring that depth 5 notches...with additional aircraft with its particular capability..

This does look amazing but I would guess that it is very arcade like even in the pro flight mode. Still the graphics kill the screen shots from the current DCS Black Shark. I guess that it comes down to graphics vs flight model and sadly I think that Hawks will sell way more than what DCS ever does just on the strength of the graphics.

Still it shows the level of graphics that can be done now so hopefully once DCS does bring in its new graphics then it will be at least as good as Hawks and maybe even better.

Just tried the demo:

the GOOD; Looks pretty. (maybe your alone this valentine's?!)

Aircraft: check!

Missiles and bombs: check!

Whooshing sounds, with big bang bangs: check!

Will not cause lung cancer...

the Bad: This game is on the arcade side of arcadey... could be a plus if your 12 yrs old, live with your parents, or have a whoosh-whoosh-bang-bang-boner.

you cannot use your instruments...re: look at them

no black/red out. no indication you are pulling g's....

stuttering FPS... could be my 360....

graphics are actually terrible, IMHO.

Well I downloaded the demo a few days ago and I keep dropping in and out.

The game was never going to be sim, I never had any thoughts it ever would be. The 360 is a console and the majority of it's audience just don't want to play a sim.

So with this in mind I fired up the demo without any pre-conseptions as to what it was trying to be. And for what it is, it's good!

As I was flying along I looked into the corner of the screen and saw the missle count...over 100...I was disheartend but carried on playing. After the second (and last demo) level I had a big smile on my face. I had fired over 75 missles and not even cared that it wasn't realistic. It's a visual and sound treat and to be honest a welcome break from BS. For me BS is the kind of "game" that you need to plan to play, you need to know you have enough time on your hands to get in and enjoy it, put on your track ir, make sure your joystick profile is loaded etc.

With HAWX you just plonk down in front of the TV in your pants, a cup of tea and a long straw and let your brain turn to mush.

Oh and to the previous poster regarding Tom Clancy being careful about what he puts his name too, if I remember correctly UBI now owns Redstorm and the Clancy name as far as games go.

man.. HAWX is starting to loose my vote..

some one is saying that when on ERS , assistance on, you loose cockpit mode and you go into 3rd eye cam...

so if i wanted to do these so called arcadey stunts, it would be in 3rd person perspective..

that is retarded...IMO...

i want to do the arcadey stunts in cockpit mode in an F-14D !!!!!!!!!!!

There are 3+1 views:

View 1) Cockpit

View 2) Full Screen with HUD (sort of cockpit view, think of a bumper cam on a race game)

View 3) View from behind aircraft, or chase cam.

View 4) Assistance off mode is an outside view that would best be described as a replay view but live.

ERS (which basically tells you were to fly) can be toggled on an off in any view as far as I know. I can't say I have tried to use it in View 4, but it definatly works in the cockpit.

I also think you guys are comming at it from the wrong POV, it's an arcade game, treat it as so and you will enjoy yourself as it is in fact a good arcade flyer. The assistence mode off is fun to see cool stuff and is usefull under a few circumstances. I do find myself switching between cockpit view and assistance off, but a lot of my combat is done in the cockpit.

The reason your friend may have said ERS goes to an outside view may be down to his settings. I have mine in "expert" mode...whatever the hell that is!
