fixed Ships disappear in the mission editor

I place my ships in the mission, but when I start the ships do not appear.  I have been playing for years and this is new.  Missions I played today had ships, but this evening, they won't show up.  I repaired dcs open beta (current version), everything runs fine, just no ships.  I've tried different ships, different countries, but have had no luck.

Any suggestions?

After, I had to guess, dear Flappie, that you should already have been "on it", and I'm going to return the favor - hope sgmcgee won't mind - sending a mission file I made yesterday, just a few hours after the 2.8 released. Please note that the ferry, among all the other ships, was the only one barge effectively visible at sea from the cockpits(s).

I finally found the issue.  I had added an aircraft mod.  When I uninstalled it, the ships came back.

Thanks, sgmcgee, this could be an useful clue to follow... what mod have you removed, by the way?

On my side, I remember that the first time I experienced this I used the F/A 18 and the Supercarrier only.

Boh, who knows, I'm going to replicate the case and will see what happens.

Update: I replicated the mission, once again with the Bug alone. I wasn't able to do anything than diving in the sea instead to be placed on the deck waiting to taxi and takeoff. Not only that, but also remained that other weird matter about all the "vanished" ships of any class I put in the mission by purpose, as pointed out in my first message. Still weird.

@Flappie: do you have any news about, perhaps?

I don't know if it's related but, on my rig (latest update Nov 2, all mods off), the carrier in the Huey and Apache Instant Action missions is invisible until you get within a few meters of it. It seems to be a LOD issue.

Good news for you then, mate... my ones, of any class, postively don't at all instead.

Just about our respective PC/systems: mine has an Intel i9-12900K@3.20 GHz CPU, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, a Gigabyte GV-N3090 OC-24GD motherboard and a nVidia RTX 3090 video card, OS Windows 11 Pro last update (told by essentials).

If you don't mind, of course, would you kindly test for me a custom mission with any plane, official and with/without modded ones, and any kind and class of ship within and tell me what happened after, please? That for my curiosity's sake and to see if my case can be replicated or not, at this point.

HI, I am seeing the same. I add ships (carriers) but only the icon appears on the map. My installation is fresh (less than a week). only had A4 mod but removed for the tests.

solved. Installed and removed once again A4 MOD and fixed. Don't know why

Hey man, if you were replying to me I think there is no point in me testing. My ship issue is very clearly a LOD problem. If your ships are not there at all - ie planes falling into the ocean and no collision with objects, then it's got to be something completely different. Try the A4 solution perhaps. I'm sorry, don't have time this weekend to do much testing of such stuff. Good luck!

Then, let's get to the point: I decided to follow that Demiurgo and yours' suggestion, but in a radical way.

And indeed so it was - with all mods of all types removed, the ships have reappeared. All of them. So, I tried to reinsert, one at a time, only 4 of them, only planes: T-45, A-4, A-7, Tornado (VSN). Everything went well, so it will mean that one or more of the "earth" mods (those to be put in the "tech" section) were probably the culprit. Experience: from now on, with each major change (as happened with the transition from DCS 2.6.xxx to DCS 2.7), I' d better to remove everything from the "Mods" folder before trying the new baby. Case solved once again, thank goodness.

@wowbagger I saw what you see. I edited your mission and... found out that your carrier unit is actually... a submarine?! I don't quite understand what I see. I tried to changed to a CVN-74, but then the ME says the water is not deep enough. It eventually let me place it but a little further from the ground. THen the LOD issue was gone.

It looks to me as if you played with the sim limits and... lost.

No worries, I already guessed that "something" could have went wrong for you, and I know for sure you always are on the helping side.

See, another matter. I've just found that mission I uploaded here for testing has been made "not available" by some unknown fellow without asking any previous permission from me. That was a simple mission file, tested by me personally and scanned to be not harmful nor infected by any kind of hidden virus.

If you have some idea about who dared to take such kind of initiative, tell him by me that if this is his idea of being funny, on my own I just can't await to return him gladly in that same spirit and way. Promised.

Which mission are you talking about? The one you attached here is still available for me. I am not a moderator by the way, I'm not sure I can help on this front.

thanks for checking things out. Just to clarify, that was with the standard Huey and Apache Instant Action quick missions that come with the modules, not one I created.  I didn't change or customize anything.

Thank you, removed my aircraft mods as well (not sk60) and now are the ships back again.
