Update really 150GB of download?

Hi there!

I´ve been away from DCS for a few months. Today, I wanted to update my 2.7.15.26783 beta install (Syria, South Atlantic, Persian Gulf, Nevada, AH64, F/A-18, Tomcat, Supercarrier, F16, AV-8B) to the most recent version. And the installer shows me an download of almost 150GB! That´s immense, can it be correct?

Thx in advance for your input.

You are updating 4 maps, yes it sounds correct.

Ok, thx for the quick reply. Does that mean that the final install will be 150GB bigger? DCS is on my 😄 (Win) drive, it's a 1TB Samsung M.2 SSD, and right now, it's got roughly 460GB of free space left. Is it still true, that a SSD shouldn't be filled up with data?

Edit: the smiley above should read C:\ drive. Can't edit it somehow.

Hi.

Well yes, DCS eats a lot of disk space. Indeed, I have it on a second SSD (500GB), and I am planing on dumping it on a 1TB SSD so the future maps can fit! Yhay a hole 1 TB SSD just for DCS!

Besides that, I suggest you install DCS in a second SSD (if posibble), and use the main one just for Windows and system things.

That's it, I had that in mind. But now, the second 1TB Samsung M.2 SSD holds XP12 and MSFS (actually didn't want to install the latter one). And with both of these civilian sims eating up place like crazy, I'm only left with the system drive for DCS.

Or, I might install a third SSD. But I'm pretty sure that my main board only offers 2 M.2 busses.

Yes, that's my setup too:

I have Windows + DCS on drive C, which is a 1 TB SSD, and my user files on drive G (Saved Games + my OneDrive + the Pagefile), which is another 1 TB SSD. The other drives are for other games, my Lightroom photos, and Backups 🙂

HI.

I do not have M.2 busses, I use "normal SSD with SATA cable, and I find it fast enough.. Conisder adding one (unless you use a laptop, obviously...)

No.

I cannot show the correct number, but about .... 40 GB bigger ?

20 GB = SA map expansion.
( 5 GB = Marianas map expansion ... when you forget )
9 GB = Mirage F1 AI common resources.
3 GB = MB-339 AI common resources.
2 GB = Ground units newly added.
1 GB = New aircraft Liveries officially added to the install.

Rest 110 GB may replace existing files.

That sounds logical. Maybe I'll just give it a try and let the download run over night...

I finally did the update. And in the end I got roughly 65GB of new data on my SSD, while the unpacked download was 155GB in size. Can't wait to give 2.8.0x a first try. The videos I've seen so far look absolutely amazing.

Thx again for you input, guys!
