I know it has been discussed before, but I have no internet in my computer anymore (I'm writing this message from my tablet) and I built and upgraded it for DCS only. I know that I'm supposed to be connected to verify that's a legal copy, but after spending thousands on DCS I'd like to know if there is a way for me to use it for more than 3 days without connecting.

Thanks.

So, is there some way to do this if you're already without internet? I had lost internet before this started and now I guess I won't be able to use it.

I can think of two options:

a) You could bring your PC to a friend's house that has internet, validate your DCS user credentials and then enter Off-Line Mode.

b) You could enable WiFi sharing on your cell phone and connect the PC to it. If the PC does not have a wifi connector, there are USB wifi cards for less than US$10.

Neither of those work, because it's my computer that's not receiving. Everyone at home has but me. I even installed a USB receiver and it doesn't  get internet to my computer.

Still looking for other options.

On that case, putting DCS on off-line mode would be just a workaround … fix the network problem instead, I doubt it’s hardware because you tried a second wifi device and it still didnt work, so I would try a Windows reinstall done by someone that can do this without destroying your data (i.e. without formatting)

OK, I think I can do this. DCS is in a separate hard drive, so I wouldn't lose DCS, also, I'm thinking on validating DCS in a different computer since the whole instalation is on the SSD.

no, that won’t work, when you enter off-line mode dcs will take note of your hardware .. any hardware change and it will assume that it was copied onto another pc and cease to function.

The router is in the house but in a different floor and I tried bringing it to my floor, but the adapters in the computer are the ones not working, not the router, the rest of the equipment work with the internet perfectly, except my computer. Not Wi-Fi, nor Ethernet, nothing works with mine.

So I guess nothing will work since I even bought a netgear adapter and even though it sees and connects to the network it doesn't give internet to the computer, even with the modem right beside it.

If two different internet connection devices are not working for you, then I would discard it being a hardware problem, it looks like a messed up Windows.

I must have misunderstood… you said that you purchased a netgear adapter and I assumed that it was in addition to the built-in network port that your pc already had.

Yes, I bought a Netgear adapter so the computer could see the network, but that didn't work. I have a question. If I buy a new computer and install DCS in it, will it let me use DCS and my modules or since it's a different computer will I not be allowed to use it?

You can use whichever computer you want, but only on one at a time. You just need to start DCS on the new Computer with your user credentials and password. But wouldn't be less expensive to just try to reinstall Windows on your current PC first?

Sounds similar to my issue. I built a new PC with an ASUS motherboard. It turned out that the windows version on my old install stick was outdated, and I had to make a new install stick with a current version of windows 10.

When I tried with the old stick, I couldn't get network drivers to install, I downloaded drivers from asus website using my laptop but when I ran the installer on the new PC it just closed and didn't do anything . It just didn't work. After reinstalling windows using the new windows stick created with the microsoft tool, it suddenly worked and the drivers installed automatically during setup as it is supposed to be.

So, make sure you're installing windows using the latest windows 10 version. Hope this helps, you never know...

Well, thanks to all of your suggestions I finally fixed my issue, and now I'm starting to install my modules. I reinstalled Windows, and basically didn't even lose any data. If anyone has a problem like this you can refer them here.

Thanks

So, what exactly did you do to solve it?

Well, after reading all your suggestions I decided to reinstall Windows. That once again started the network connection. Now reinstalling DCS, and so far, so good. I hope I have no problems with the network installation.

Thank you very much.

I never thought of this before, but I've spent over 1,100 usd on DCS and have no issues connecting to the internet, but what if something happened in my area (some type of disaster) that brought down the internet. Yes, maybe DCS is the least of my issues, or maybe I find myself at home wanting to play DCS while society restores itself. Am I out of luck?

If internet went down tomorrow is my DCS installation no good after three days?

Yes, that's how it works, only free parts of DCS will be available to you. If you suspect high chances of it happening, go offline now and remember to go online again, before making changes to the system/PC.

And a reminder that easiest method to connect a PC (when no WiFi card is available) to the Internet nowadays seems to be a tether with a smart phone which already is connected.

For the reason unknown to me, recently we've had a few internet "discos" where I live. No internet, a couple of times a week, for a few hours. As a result I switched to run DCS offline routinely. Whenever there's a DCS update, I go online, install, and go offline immediately afterwards. Thanks to that the "window of opportunity" for the internet provider to scr*w my DCS is smaller 🙂
