TEDAC problems as of Open Beta 2.8.1.34667 (In night mode Wide difference of image quality between virtual in game TDU to multimonitor export

Recommended Posts

UPDATE as of open beta 2.8.1.34667

the ghosting in day mode on Virtual cockpit is gone, but now it is very dim on multimonitor in night mode..

wow..

ED, these multimonitor export capability is amazing.. though i spend more time in VR, i decided to mess around with DIY hardware

After user @Purzel shared how to get TEDAC export working without need for special lua files, i had to play around

just some issues to resolve as trying out open beta version DCS 2.8.0.32235.1.

1) virtual cockpit (in game) TDU display ghosting when multimonitor exporting is enabled in DAY mode (setting TDU to night mode is OK)

2) the image highly differs (contrast/brightness) between virtual cockpit (in game) to the exported TEDAC displayport to multimonitor.

**note my secondary monitor settings match that of my main monitor**

also want to point out when looking at the TEDAC image against and AH64D MDF with VID / CPG SIGHT image select, you can also see this difference of in game image quality..

other than that... it is much easier to video TEDAC on a multimonitor than in VR...

wish the image quality matched both the TDU and CPG SIGHT thru MFD

other than that, AMAZING to have TEDAC working with multimonitors.. thank you ED

Both of these issues have been discussed in other threads.

A workaround was recently mentioned for the ghosting in this thread:

https://forum.dcs.world/topic/298072-apache-display-export-guide/?do=findComment&comment=5078379

The solution for the difference in gamma on the exported display vs the in-cockpit display is using a UI Mask in ReShade:

also.. if it helps the team.. i want to mention that i dont think that the problem lies in the export,

but the in game TEDAC. when i set the MFD to VID -> CPG SIGHT with a brightness of 50%, it seems image almost resembles image quality of the display export.. how ever the TEDAC stays extremely bright / washed out..

It would be awesome if someone at ED was designated as the "multi-monitor test person", and was running a setup with exported MFDs and TEDAC.

There is a group of very dedicated enthusiasts that go the extra step to setup sim pits with additional displays and controllers, and then their experience is thwarted by some of these issues described here and in other threads.

  • TEDAC ghost image in-cockpit when display is exported
  • exported MFDs not matching the gamma setting of in-cockpit displays
  • exported MFDs unusable on night missions when the in-cockpit displays are turned down

Please keep to the issue here, the other issues are already reported.

sorry for late reply.. i was traveling

attached is multimonitor config files... @BIGNEWY

as you and every one mention, the dark export screens haven been an issue.

Camera+TEDAC.lua 474 B · 0 downloads TEDAC_init.lua 1.06 kB · 0 downloads

I have reproduced the issue and will report to the team

Okay, but the other two issues are not indicated as "reported" anywhere.  At least not in this Multi-Display subforum.

This thread is about the ghosting issue, but also mentions the brightness issues, and you only seem to have reproduced the ghosting issue of the TEDAC above.

Here is a thread about the exported MFDs being too dark at night:  https://forum.dcs.world/topic/306391-does-anyone-at-ed-fly-with-display-exports-to-secondary-monitors-at-night/

Can you verify this has been reported, and then mark the thread as such?  Until we see some sort of response from ED in the thread, we can only assume it has gone unnoticed.

Thanks!

the brightness issue is a core DCS issue and common with all aircraft, there is no easy solution for it currently and the report remains open while the team look for solutions.

I can not respond to every thread, it has been reported already however.

I will take a look at that thread now.

Hi all.

I have tested a fix for the ghost image TEDAC internally and hopefully it will be in a future patch.

Please note when it is patched you will not need to edit TEDAC_init.lua as the export will be natively available

Thank you

Sweet, thanks BN. Do you know if that fix applies to the double rendering of the MPDs aswell?

I thought the double rendering was an issue with the TEDAC only, no?

I'm not seeing it on the left and right MPDs here.

Its an issue with the MPDs too, its just not offset like the TEDAC so you dont notice. The way it seems the rendering pipelines work in apache is you have the basic video feed then overlayed with the cockpit glass texture, and then when you export you get another video laid on top of that. Which is why you lose the glass effects on the display when you export. Also part of the reason its so glaringly bright.

Hi it seems not to work because with the original TEDAC lua file the TEDAC doesn't appear on the screen. But with the modified one it does.

if your multimonitor lua file (example "camera + RMFD + TEDAC)

you should start over and create a new lua based on the other multimonitor files.

my old custom TEDAC_init.lua had a parameter that used to call "TDU" on the same parameter "TDU" my custom multimonitor lua for theTEDAC.

but with the new updates, the syntax is not exactly the same, and that parameter changed, so my multimonitor file was calling on a paramter that got changed.

so, that is my suggestion, open up the latest mulitmonitor files, and recreate new as a reference

Hi the solution is here

TEDAC =
{
     x = 2480;
     y = 490;
     width = 560;
     height = 560;
}

I've tested it i have night and day display on the second monitor. The only thing is that the TEDAC is really dark, so the night mode is unusable.

Hi

It's only in the monitorsetup folder, no other modification. So i suppose it should work. I will hope that user of TM cougar MFD or other external MFD wouldn't be blocked, if the intergity of the aircraft folder wouldn't be changed. I'll try it, this evening, because now i have to go to work (i'm living in France) .

Edit: just tried it and it works fine, no problem with the integrity check.

Of course

First of all, I've created a MonitorSetup folder in the saved games as follow

C:\Users\XXX\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\MonitorSetup

The XXX have to be replaced with your own user name of course

Then copy a lua file from the C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Config\MonitorSetup (depends where your DCS is located) and paste it in the MonitorSetup created above.

My file is here. I'm using a 1920*1080 monitor for main display and a 1680*1050 monitor on the right for the MFCD/TEDAC display, so you have to adapt the coordinates for your setup. So my setup in DCS is 3600*1080.

For the name of the file you can put what you want, but it's really important that you put the same name in the file : My file is named Camera+RMFCD2.lua

If you don't have the exactly same name it wouldn't appear in DCS

_  = function(p) return p; end;
name = _('Camera+RMFCD2');
Description = 'Camera on the center, MFCDs on the right monitor'
Viewports =
{
     Center =
     {
          x = 0;
          y = 0;
          width = 1920;
          height = 1080;
          viewDx = 0;
          viewDy = 0;
          aspect = 16/9;
     }
}

LEFT_MFCD =
{
     x = 1920;
     y = 0;
     width = 560;
     height = 560;
}

CENTER_MFCD =
{
     x = 2480;
     y = 490;
     width = 560;
     height = 560;
}

RIGHT_MFCD =
{
     x = 3040;
     y = 0;
     width = 560;
     height = 560;
}

TEDAC =
{
     x = 2480;
     y = 490;
     width = 560;
     height = 560;
}

UIMainView = Viewports.Center
GU_MAIN_VIEWPORT = Viewports.Center

As you can see, the CENTER_MFCD and the TEDAC have the same coordinates.
