sobek Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 It's not even said if it will really be distributed via steam IIRC, might be a long way down. Oh and the obvious 'when it's done' of course :) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Nate--IRL-- Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Any day now? :noexpression: Who else is waiting for the steam release? Just curious why are you waiting for a steam release, it would be the same a purchasing off the website, no? JDski Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I hate games on Steam. Every stream game has to be under the same directory or HD. Plus I tried to recently buy a game on steam and I couldn't find my old user info. Thus lost everything. No support hardly if any. I couldn't even start a new account to purchase a new game. Opened a ticket and haven't heard squat. I'll never buy another steam game. To much hassle if you should have a problem. Why give them anything when you could buy direct?

This says it all! It's like they have such a great ego that it is, "Play our game, while online, on our terms, or forget it! Support? Open a ticket and maybe, if we feel like it and have a minute, we'll do something." Saddest thing ever is, I think their game Half-Life is probably the best game I have ever played (best, of any game, any platform, any time). I own Half-Life 2, the Orange Box (add-ons 1 & 2, plus Portal) and have still never played it because i find them so obnoxious with their "You must be logged on to us to play!" attitude. 1 Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!
RockStar Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I had zero issues purchasing this off the DCS wesbsite, why wait? I personally am not a fan of Steam either. Rock on, be strong!
Moreno Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I think it's ok to play games like Halflife 2, TF2 or mods like Inurgency via Steam. But I wouldn't buy BS via them. I just play Valve games via steam. No problems there....
815TooCooL Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Current download purchase is 200% better than Steam distribution. Why wait? thinkr Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Excuses Excuses...:helpsmilie: For the record Steam games don't need copy protection so the Steam version would likely come out without Starforce... besides there are hundreds of games on steam not just a few valve games. I'm sorry but thats about the worst excuse I've ever heard... you said "I bought a game on a steam an lost my account info..." Wow... should you really be handeling money from a bank account if you can't remember a user name an password to begin with? You can't buy a game on Steam without a user account, so you would have had to have logged in to buy it, is it really that hard to remember... you have an email address they could reset it for you, if you remembered your email, I guess thats even harder to remember, sounds like a pretty bad excuse to me. Oh and same directory? Wow so you don't know how to install steam to another dir so the game installs on that same drive? I'm amazed you guys can figure out the sim, seems its more complicated that remembering a password or installing a game for that matter. I'm basically saying your just making up excuses cause you didn't wait, but that doesn't bother me... I might just cave in, but I guess whats really holding me back is I'm waiting for the AH-64 mod, since thats what I really want to play :joystick: Until than or When I cave in...:pilotfly: thx HRM we'll see... 1 Modded CapLoz HeliosV2.1_1280x1024.zip 2x 1080p 22"Monitors, Saitek X52, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals, Trackir5, Win7Pro Pro 64Bit, Intel Q9550 @3.8Ghz, EP45-UD3L, 8GB Ram, Nvidia 560Ti 2GB, 2x 500GB Velociraptor Flaming Cliffs 3 DCS:A10C,KA-50, Huey, Mi-8, WWII Euro 40+ Supporter, Mig21 Falcon 4 BMS IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 Take on Helicopters Arma 2 AO + PMC + BF All Addons Series Arma 3 EECH & EEAH Medivac & Search and Rescue 4 Series
Icarus2 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 you said "I bought a game on a steam an lost my account info..." Wow... should you really be handeling money from a bank account if you can't remember a user name an password to begin with? To be fair, I think Steam is having issues. Yeterday, I installed Steam and registered properly and they keep saying incorrect login. This is not correct as I cut and pasted my account name and password, so its not me. I also contacted them twice and no reply.
Sunjah Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Personally, there is no excuse or defending argument about it. I very much dislike (okay, hate!) Steam. The one time I did have a problem, they took their sweet time responding, and then spoke with a "You don't know what you are doing" tone. Such a shame that the greatest game ever (that I have played) is owed to this same company. Not only that, what about people that don't have, or have limited minutes on the Internet. Kind of kicking them while their down, isn't it. I like Valve, I hate Steam (just the idea behind it, actually, but the implementation is not far behind). Chizzy101 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) I am a fan of Valve and steam, however if the original poster is concerned about buying DCS online, all I can say is that it was pain free, easy, fast and secure for me. I had no problems and believe me, this sim is a blast. As for DRM, not much you can do about it, but for the record I've had no problems with starforce either with DCS or other games in the past. You'll cave in... Edit http://www.simhq.com/_air12/air_394d.html published on 9 Dec. 2008. Suggests that a steam version may be the works, but no confirmation. thinkr Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 I guess we can agree to disagree... theres also another benifit if you use steam... There will be no need for activations... since all game liscences are handled by the accnt authorizations, so no need to worry about losing your cd key or anything like that... anyway... When are you on a time limit on your own computer? Agree to disagree...:book: Modded CapLoz HeliosV2.1_1280x1024.zip 2x 1080p 22"Monitors, Saitek X52, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals, Trackir5, Win7Pro Pro 64Bit, Intel Q9550 @3.8Ghz, EP45-UD3L, 8GB Ram, Nvidia 560Ti 2GB, 2x 500GB Velociraptor Flaming Cliffs 3 DCS:A10C,KA-50, Huey, Mi-8, WWII Euro 40+ Supporter, Mig21 Falcon 4 BMS IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 Take on Helicopters Arma 2 AO + PMC + BF All Addons Series Arma 3 EECH & EEAH Medivac & Search and Rescue 4 Series
192nd_Erdem Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I'm strongly backing up the Steam version. Some of you may not like Steam for some strange reasons (eg: read thinkr's post), but it doesn't change that Steam is a viable option used by 15 million people and has it's advantages. First thing I'm excited about is about that 15 million people. Now, I'm sure many of you somewhat figured it out that DCS is like a "A new hope" in the simulation world. It's like the "first step" into the next-gen simulation with it's modules and ongoing engine development. Too bad very few people know about it. Now best way to do this is not mouth to mouth advertising or having a tiny little website that says "Hey, we're here and we're doing great work! Notice us please?". ED can't afford to do huge advertising campaigns and this is where Steam comes in, 15 million potential users and the ability to make your advertising easily. You make an update, all the people gets warned and maybe persuaded to learn about it. IMO this alone makes it a huge chance for ED. Also, I'm a Steam user for more than 3 years and have about 15 games on it and never had an issue(well, only once when Steam servers were down in 2006 because of a Hurricane), thank god I can remember my passwords and my email, it's been getting new features lately and they're pretty cool. I'd love to have a BS Steam version. So would many people who're not in the "I hate Steam but don't ask me why. No wait, IT SMELLS!" bandwagon. Steam was problematic back in HL2 release but those days are long gone.
Immermann Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I used to like Steam (still do in some ways) but with their new pricing scheme for us europeans it's often cheaper to buy the games from any store (not to mention play.com!). As for remembering passwords and such, I use an USB-stick with encryption for all my log-in info and passwords.
Haril Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I'm also waiting for either BS on Steam or official word that it's not going to happen. I prefer the Steam environment to having logins for bits and bobs everywhere.
Sunjah Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 ..."I hate Steam but don't ask me why. No wait, IT SMELLS!" bandwagon. Steam was problematic back in HL2 release but those days are long gone. I respect your decision, and it is yours to make. I hope you do enjoy Steam, but I will stay away from it. I believe I (and several others) quite clearly illustrated with posts as to why we don't want to use Steam. Good post, up until this sentence which seemed thrown in there at the end to finish up with an insult. I did state quite clearly exactly why I choose not to use them. Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!
Icarus2 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Well, I've had it with Steam. I did everything correctly and it is still fubar. Their customer service is zero. I do not trust any company that will not return customer support emails. Sorry, but entities that operate in that manner do not deserve my buisiness. I don't need them, they need me. I got BS fron DCS and all is well. To bad Steam, Goodbye for good, I just removed you from my hard drive.
aledmb Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 afaik, the downloadable english version does not come with starforce, right? i think this is the main reason some people are waiting for a steam version. i bought and activated the game without any problems. thanks ED!
GGTharos Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Yes, it does come with StarForce, but without SF drivers. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
GGTharos Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I don't know why you make the assumption that there would be no activations ... it's the wrong assumption to make. Boberro Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I like Steam. For me it works without any problems, VALVe did good platform for games. I never had bigger problems. I am all for Steam. aledmb Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Yes, it does come with StarForce, but without SF drivers. yeah, sorry.. i meant the drivers. they're the reason some people argue it's better to stay away.
