New GPU upgrade From 1080 Ti: Need advices

Hello Guys,

 

I fly mainly on DCS and MSFS and i have currently :

 

10600K (non OC)

GTX 1080Ti Evga watercooled

32 Gb RAM DDR4

1440P

 

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU but have 500e max budget:

 

So i'm considering the RTX 3060 / 3060Ti however i'm confused about performance gain:

Indeed, on DCS with medium/ high setting, Low trees visibility, I'm already at Max VRAM, ie 11Gb of VRAM and FPS is 30-45 on a server like Tempest with a lot of scripts with 50+ players.

The 3060 has 12gb of VRAM so it 'wont be worst than my current 1080Ti but is has less performance then the 1080Ti ?

3060Ti has 8Gb of RAM so i'll be severly VRAM limited ans althught it's superior to the 1080Ti in term of GPU power, will I have less performance than my current GPU because i'll be VRAM limited ?

 

So far for my budget, it seems that the RTX series is only usefeul for the DLSS feature that can double or even triple your FPS like its the case for MSFS 2020 but afaik it's not available with DCS currently ?

Forget the RTX3060 12GB, it's much slower than the GTX1080Ti 11GB.
Forget the RTX3060Ti 8GB, performance increase is minimal compared to GTX1080Ti 11GB and has less VRAM (important for DCS), not worth the cost.

500,00 Euros?
For that budget I'd only recommend a used (as in, second hand) RTX3080 10GB or (AMD) RX6800XT 16GB.
Plenty found on Ebay, though you'll have to go through auction/bidings, or have luck with those accepting offers ("buy it now" prices still a bit inflated).

I'm also considering upgrading my aging 1080ti, but won't until we see AMD's new offerings. Currently for 900E you can find used 3090 which is still quite high. Just wait a little longer. I hope to see a used 3090 near the 500E range in next few months.

That is also one of the best alternatives, yes, though to get those at such prices is a bit optimistic.
You can already get RTX3090 in second hand on Ebay for 680 Euros or so but, again, you'll have to go through auction/bidings, or have luck with those accepting offers ("buy it now" prices still a bit inflated). They're there for sure, be patient.

God NO! Don't switch your 1080ti for either of them. You will gain virtually nothing (apart from raytracing, which isn't a thing in DCS).

I agree with those who suggested a 3080. Wait until a good used one fits into your budget or keep saving a bit longer. The 1080ti is a god-tier card which has aged very, VERY, well. Until it's broken or you can make a meaningful upgrade - keep saving.

Agreed, the RTX 3XXX is only usefeull with DLSS, on MSFS which i fly 50% of the time has DLSS and you can double your FPS without almost graphic quality loss. If DCS had DLSS, it would still be worth it but as or now it's not
