Biggles07 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Hi there people, Ok I bought and downloaded DCS Black Shark yesterday afternoon, but was shocked to find that it was only playable online? 50 bucks for an incomplete game? I think the description "online version of black shark" is very misleading and ambiguous, and took it to mean the full game downloadable online version. I assume there is no way to play offline? Learning about it looks demanding enough without being shot at (though I think most would choose co-ops in helis) Ah well. To make me more miserable, I can't even play it full screen....It is "windowed" and appears to be paused (a pause symbol flashes in corner). I have no visible way of changing graphics options/resolution, HOTAS config or indeed anything apart from server options! :( In the manual there are a lot more options available on the start screen, have I had a bad download or something? All I see is 3 choices, Server, Client and mulitplayer "options" which is only connection speed as it turns out and of course "exit". To say I am dissapointed is an understatement . I have tried with the desktop exe. icon to use normal, maximised and minimised, but it is always windowed. My O/S is Vista 64 bit, but apparently you can run it well on this? ( I even tried disabling "Aero" and sidebar, is there something I am missing? I do not run "Newview" the IL-2 Joystick config program which I hear can cause problems) Any help would be greatly appreciated and save me from pulling whats left of my hair out lol, thanks kindly. It looks a fantastic sim ( if I can get it to work ) and I am eager to learn about it. Vista 64 Home Premium SP1 PS X58 P6t Deluxe Corei7 940 ATI 4870X2 1200w P/S Onboard "SoundMAX" audio. Best regards:). ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
ED Team JimMack Posted January 16, 2009 ED Team Posted January 16, 2009 You should have 2 launch icons on your desktop. Blue colour is multiplayer, Brown colour is single player. ZaltysZ Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Try the orange icon instead of blue one to launch a game.:smilewink: Don't forget to look at options screen. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
JG14_Smil Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 You are using the multiplayer icon to start the sim. Use the orange colored icon, not the blue one.
einar-st Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 There are two desktop icons made after installation.. one for Singleplayer and one for Multiplayer... I assume you're using the wrong one.
CE_Mikemonster Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Instead of starting the Multiplayer Launcher, start the 'DCS: Black Shark [Launcher]' Feel silly? Lol Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
DTWD Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I wonder if we will ever see him again :D Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Biggles07 Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Instead of starting the Multiplayer Launcher, start the 'DCS: Black Shark [Launcher]' Feel silly? Lol Hahahaha yes I do feel silly, VERY!! I did not even notice the orange Icon as it was put in the very top corner of my 24 inch monitor and I have a very orange "Sunset" desktop background! lol  Thanks very much for the quick replys people, I will see if I can now play in full screen mode though. ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
DTWD Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Work through the options, it's all in there. Those options bounce into the multiplayer part as well if you ever play that, and you won't have problems launching that :D Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Biggles07 Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 All is now well and in full screen glory........Though a trip to the Opticians is definitely in order!!! Hehehe. Thanks guys. And yes, no doubt I will return  ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
CE_Mikemonster Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Hehehe glad to hear you've got yourself sorted. Remember to use the 'Affinity Trick' when you're getting the fps/graphics settings set up - assigning the game to both cores can almost double framerates in Vista. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T

Remember to use the 'Affinity Trick' when you're getting the fps/graphics settings set up - assigning the game to both cores can almost double framerates in Vista. Rgr that mike mate, just did it and set to core OO and O1, definite big improvement (by "default" was set to run on all cores, the 4 "virtual" ones included) but when I restart it does not seem to save the setting. Maybe I need that Prioaff thing I've heard of or similar (only had this corei7 since late Nov and new to multi-core). I am also having trouble setting Vsync with the ATI 4870X2, I force it to always on in Catalyst settings yet I still get tearing. The setup options I have tried are both 1024 every frame and 1024 for cockpit res. Any suggestions? (First ATI card too, lifelong NVIDIA customer) First impressions, looks great! Will start the FAM training etc tonight and get the basics down. Never tried a Helicoptor sim before but have been "flying" sims for years, theres a lot to take in!.:) ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
CE_Mikemonster Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Serves you right for having 4870x2, i'm limping on with a 3850! It's the CPU that matters in this game though mate, doubt you need to use X-fire at all. 'Show FPS' is R.SHIFT + PAUSE/BREAK as far as I remember. I have a program that launches DCS with the cores set automatically, but after a lot of searching can't find the link I dl'd it from, sorry! Just use the search function and you'll find one (there's at least two.. the one i'm using is dedicated to DCS). Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T

Very light and works a treat, it has different profiles for different cpus. And that is the FPS keystroke. I remember wondering in the old lock on days, what is all that other stuff if you press it twice? Edited January 16, 2009 by DTWD Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
