The RWR is incredibly loud even on it's lowest setting. What ever the lowest signal setting is that can be cut in half. Please drop the lower end of the volume spectrum. As of now I reach up on my headset and lower it but that causes issues with SRS. There is no balancing it to make it quieter on my end. I searched for this as a topic and was pretty surprised nobody else has brought it up. While flying with others on Hoggit servers they seemed to agree also. RWR lowest volume is too loud.

I understand the warning should get your attention.

I know this is not a gamebreaker. If it is a simple fix like just dropping a value please do that.

Turning the Helmet Volume down and everything else up will work for this. But that lowers the Warning sounds so not a good quick fix.

Is this just me?

No its not just you, its louder than it should be on the lowest volume if you ask me. Like you said hello Tinnitus if you fly the Harrier alot of a busy RWR enviro.

See this thread. It is a very simple fix which you can do. You shouldn't have to of course, but it is something which has been ignored by the developer.

I also recommend porting the sounds from the F-14's RWR. The AV-8BNA's RWR sounds are awful!

I made a mod some time ago which replaces them with the Hornet RWR sounds which you can download here, just cut out the betty sound files:

The thing is: a simulation should simulate the real life RWR sounds. This the AV-8B uses a different library, than the F-14 which uses a different library than the F-16, which in turn uses a different library than the A-10C... And then there's the Mirages and that's just the western aircraft.

From a "game" perspective, it would be convenient to have all RWRs use the same sounds, symbols and logic, to make it easy for the players to switch aircraft. From a simulation perspective, the individual aircraft should replicate their real life original...

Just my two cents. 😇

Hey,

I've reduced the volume on all RWR sounds, that should come with next update.

Cheers,

A.J.

Thank you soooo much. Can't wait for the next patch. This was something that was subconsciously always bugging me. 😄

It’s the RWR model more than the library. An ALR-67 in an F/A-18C will function and sound largely the same as an ALR-67 in an AV-8B and so on.

Right now with PRF audio coming to the ALR-56M we’re on the right track. This will add an IRL feature to the RWR.

Customisable sound and symbology is a slightly more complex matter. Lua editing of symbols is fine like in the Mirage. Any deeper simulation of the threat library is a waste of resources.

As for Russian RWR’s; they’re a lost cause! They’re kinda <profanity> IRL anyway and they’re not as big a part of your SA as in a Western jet.

I don't think so, at least not if you listen to real live in-cockpit audio... 😇

I mean the audio should be nearly identical. If you have video evidence to the contrary I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Don't get caught in the trap of thinking Hornets / Harriers of all nations use the ALR-67. More and more these days countries are using their own proprietary EW systems. Heck Finland even uses it's own FCS code for the F/A-18C!

As I said, depends on the time frame, aircraft, library etc.

The thing is, we happen to switch aircraft a lot in DCS, while real pilots usually fly mostly one combat aircraft and train to perfection, taking what the aircraft provides and learn how to operate that equipment.

That's why from a game perspective it seems weird to have no uniformity in such a critical device, but a pilot would likely never notice.
