ustio Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) I understand that Mig-29 is canceled or on hold due to current events. I wonder if F/A-18A possible since most of the 3rd party module that are coming out sets in the Cold War. And there isn't any good red plane set any way to counter any modern blue aircraft. It also would help the MP scheme for a pre 1990 scenario. Currently the F-18 is difficult to balance because it has a capability that cannot be disable. JHMCS is one of them making it tricky to balance them. Also funny enough, I think when the F/A-18 was first release during EA, it was more closer to the A than C in terms of capability. With that said i would definitely go for a (down?)upgrade price like what you did with BS3 and A-10II Edited January 4, 2023 by ustio 3
F-2 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 People ask occasionally but it seems like the only real use for it is RPing a time period. 35 degree AoA limit and underpowered engines, it seem kinda dull as a dog fighter. It’s not like say a viper where different versions have different strengths and capabilities.
Dragon1-1 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Well, the AoA limit, lack of JHMCS and weaker engines would make it harder to win dogfight with it, and it would be on a much more even ground with older aircraft we're getting an increasing number of. I think it'd be a nice expansion to the current Hornet. 4

It’s not like say a viper where different versions have different strengths and capabilities. The C is already underpowered for BVR fights, bring on the A. Being worse is a selling point, it means it's different. Capability is relative anyway. In period correct servers, it's still going to be one of the top planes. It will certainly outperform MiG-21's and Mirage F1's. But in MP, you cant disable JHMCS. It gives you a good SA doing while you are cranking in BVR. And also The JHMCS ground designatiin is pretty strong
Hulkbust44 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 We already have an A+, just with more powerful engines... 1
Evoman Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 (edited) I totally understand your point for an early Hornet. But in the meantime the new A-7 Corsair that is currently in development could very well fill that void for a cold war naval attack aircraft. Edited January 5, 2023 by Evoman
bies Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 It would be great. There is an interview with pilot flying both F/A-18A and F/A-18C big motors. F/A-18A was more maneuverable and had even better nose authority and even smaller minimum speed with lighter airframe and the same wing. Having the same acceleration and climb with lighter airframe and smaller thrust giving virtually the same T/W as big motor Charlie. He said later on it was perfect for acrobatic team with more nimble lighter airframe than "C". The worst was early "C" with already bigger weight but still original engines.
