RTX 4070 Ti DCS Benchmarks

I’m looking into getting a 4070 ti, has anyone managed to get one, and if so, how does DCS run? How does VR run?

Thanks.

Until someone posts some benchmarks in DCS, the 4070ti performs similar to or slightly (5-7%) worse than 3090ti so you could extrapolate the ballpark from how the 3090ti performs. It may take a little bit of a hit from having only 12Gb vram on a 192-bit bus.

Honestly, looking at the 4070ti specs compared to 3080/90(ti) I think the bus width/memory bandwidth is going to hurt in VR.

It's already been said in reviews, with some degree of proof through benchmarks, that the RTX4070Ti is a bit disapointing in 4K resolution (when compared to the closest competicion) due to smaller bandwidth (memory bus) being 192-bit. Which means same will apply for VR.
Previous gen models, to which it has been compared with, like the RTX3080/Ti and RTX3090/Ti, are 384-bit, which can make a little difference for smoother framerate and frametimes. But then these eat much more wattage in power consumption if compared (RTX4070Ti is very good in that, must be said).

If your priority is VR with details cranked higher on such a demanding game like DCS, maybe bite the bullet and get an RTX4080 16GB, or even RTX4090 24GB if budget can go that far...

Personally, I went for a used RTX3090 (using 4K/60Hz here) and cost was far, far less than any brand new GPU of similar performance, certainly don't regret it.

I keep saying it: never buy less than the top spec! Lower spec models are defective dies or other issues that still work. Not worth the money.

The 30xx cards are a minefield though...there are only two cards of the entire line-up worth what they cost, and even then, the performance is lackluster at best compared to 2080Ti.

I run DCS at 4K with all settings maxed except for AA, etc., and I get 40+ FPS in everything on a lowly 1080 (NOT Ti).

It's very interesting that no-one is posting their frame rates. I wonder why?Screen_230106_222154.jpg

I had a 4080 in my main gaming rig and replaced that with a 4090 and compared to my 3090 they are both wayy faster in DCS VR. I have my eye on a 4070ti for my VR rig to replace the 3090 in there now. I am surprised to hear that people think the 4070ti will be a downgrade when in reviews the 4070ti is handily beating the 3090 in most games at 4k.

So 4080 is completely out of budget, how does 4070 ti compare?

Would you mind posting how the performance is if/when you ever switch?

So far this is the only VR related 4070ti comparison I've been able  to find. Guy reported that his 4070ti tested 8% slower than his 3080 non Ti. That being said, it wasn't exactly done in controlled environment so there could be some external issue involved.

...or it could be that the 4070Ti is just rubbish, and it is more marketing hype by nVidia to justify people buying yet another overpriced, poorly performing card.

The 30xx cards were not that great vs. 2080, and I've not seen anything yet that makes me want to ditch my 1080.

You can't escape the fact the 4070Ti has extremely poor memory bandwidth vs. 3080. 192-bit vs. 384-bit makes the 4070Ti a joke.

Junk is junk, no matter what number you slap on it.

This right here gents. This is what matters the most for extreme resolution gaming OR Virtual Reailty. Unless you are gaming exclusively at 1080p then this card is a complete waste of money.

Its a solid 1440p card, though arguably not at the current price.

At 4K it begins to take a hit due to bandwith/bus width.

There are no test results available for DCS VR so far for the RTX 4070 ti. We do not know if the performance is such bad.

In worst case it performs as the 3080. Both GPUs are around 900€. No difference.

If it's more close to the 3090 or 3080 ti, then the 4070 has a "good" power per money ratio.

Just stumbled upon this thread trying to figure out how the 4070ti would compare to a 3080 in DCS.

Anyone found a proper DCS comparison review between these cards yet?

System specs:

4070ti's aren't exactly flying off of the shelves. Sadly, we're still waiting for someone to put their money forward and give it a shot. While arguably a better "value" than a 4080 when it comes to 2D gaming,  memory capacity and bus width are significant arrow to the knee for this card when it comes to VR.

My RTX 4070ti is working fine in VR.

But I cannot compare to a 3080. It's much better than my old RX 6700XT, performance is doubled.

I run a HP Reverb G2 at 100 % resolution and 45 fps (motion vector: ON) in most scenarios, except on the supercarrier with some traffic it drops to 30 fps.

VR standard settings + Textures High + Vissible Range High (no MSAA).

Edit: here are some more details, but in German:

I don't believe that the you can hold a constant 45 FPS in VR with the settings you have posted with the G2 at 100% and the specifications that you have listed.  Maybe in solo free flight missions, but you will have frequent frame drops and stutter in anything but the most ideal settings and missions.

I have purchased one which I use with a 5800X3D 32 Gb RAM together with a HP Reverb G2 for VR. I can't fell otherwise than a little disappointed. The preset setting for VR in DCS felt like an insult to my system. When using the preset HIGH I got severe stutters when plane flying above me on the ground.

What is the best settings ? Are there any descriptions for how the different settings affect performance ? And if GPU or CPU is mostly affected ? (info we got in XP)

I noticed much better improvements in MSFS

How can we make that information (we see in the video) that we see in the upper left corner visible in DCS ?

You mean the numbers on screen displaying stats (OSD, On Screen Display), I presume?

If so, that's something you can arrange with a software program called RivaTuner, usually combined with MSI Afterburner.

Both these two programs come in one installer.
Download it only from their official webpage, avoid fake versions: https://www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards

Among so many other ones on Youtube, here are a couple video tutorial guides on Afterburner+Rivatuner, to get in-game OSD:
