Hi,

Coming back to DCS after a while, I am trying to understand how external views are exactly working but I can’t find any description/ explanation of each F key function and sub-function ( using ctrl or shift).

Any help would be appreciated,

Best regards,

Pierre

You can try opening the control menu while in flight, then pressing a key. It will bring you to the binding so you can figure out what each does.

This is not a complete list:

F1 - cockpit

F2- external

F3 - flyby

F4 - external chase

F5 - look at nearby external

F6 - missile

F7 - ground units

F9 - ships

F10 - map

F11 - free camera / stationary camera / airbase camera

F12 - static objects

Thank you very much !

Is there a view like a drone view where I can move and pan the camera around an object ?

Pierre

the way to do this would be F5 and toggle through the different units then pan around. no other way that i know.

There are other combinations of that like ctrl f4 and alt f4. They change the type of chase view...

Hence, the warning about the list not being complete. I didn't feel like typing every single option out, so I just listed the general view type for each F key and mentioned that the controls list can be used to fill in what's missing.

In any external view you can press Ctrl-F11 which will free the camera and you can fly it around with the mouse. Use the scroll wheel to accelerate/decelerate.
