Has anyone here encountered any problems with Starforce Protection? The only problem I've had so far is that it would not let me install LOMAC on my computer until I fully removed Starforce Protection. According to what I've read on the internet it's a copyright protection program and it's a very malicious program that can actually shut down your computer under the right circumstances. Starforce Protection comes with each copy of Flaming Cliffs and you don't have a choice in wether you get it or not, you just get it. Has anyone removed Starforce Protection after loading and running Flaming Cliffs and what were your results?

Naaaaahhhh, that's an urban legend. Starforce will not cause any damage to your system. I have had Flaming Cliffs for a long time and never experienced any problems with Starforce: I just load the CD whenever I'm asked to and the programme launches without any inconvenience.

If for some reason Starforce does not recognise your FC CD as "valid", it will simply not launch FC and ask you to re-check your CD, try again or quit. It will not shut down your computer or anything like that. That's just a scary story someone came up with.

Installing Starforce in order to play Flaming Cliffs is mandatory. But removing it is optional and quite possible. There is a small utility programme called "Starforce remover" that will let you uninstall Starforce from your system (search Google for it). Even as Starforce installation is a must for you to play FC, a window pops up saying that it is necessary for SF to be installed, but you can choose not to install it at that point (so you know it's being installed, is not as the software installs itself without you even noticing it). However, if you try to run FC, SF setup will advise you to install it in order to play.

I also come very sceptic about these DRM protections. Still I can attest that had no problem whatsoever with Starforce installed, so far. I have the download version btw.

I surelly would rather a less intrusive copy protection but that's the way it is right now.

No problems here either and the current FC installation is not the only one that has Starforce protection. The Black Shark beta sitting on my hard drive is protected by its own copy. Also I had another copy installed during FC beta testing as well as.

Despite being very suspicious of StarForce (and hating the whole DRM concept) and having a laptop with loads of odd drivers, odd hardware, virtual CDs ... no problems and no unaccountable transactions on my credit card so far!

I have problems with Starforce. My DVD drive on my comp and my previous one (different brands) can´t burn more than 2X on DVD-R.

I also can´t burn MP3 to WAVs....I have read about Starforce screwing up DVD burners, and I had Lock On FC both on two different systems with not the same DVD burner in them. It´s odd isn´t it, having the excact same problem with two different systems, and two different DVD burner, but with the same problem?! Anyway, I have patience to wait for a burn to finish, I just turn on my laptop when doing so, so no big problem, but surely annoying...

I've had a few problems with Starforce, and yes I have lost 2 DVD burners in the process. One was new and going fine for a month until I installed LOMAC FC, then after a few days the burn process was screwing up etc. even after a new format. Then I tried another one from a computer 6 months old which was also going strong until I installed LOMAC FC yet again, that also failed within a few days.

My current one is doing ok though, luckily. Not that I'm a fan of StarForce as there are ways past it it just creates frustration for the average user especially considering not everyone has the internet. I also believe in you should be able to install it on a few different computers at home like I do with my games, instead I have to actually pay for additional copies just to LAN it up with my brother. Why ED uses StarForce? I have no idea. It puts a lot of genuine users off buying the game.

Thanks for your feedback guys. I've got to admit that I was very reluctant to load FC on my computer once I read about Starforce Protection. So far no problems but time will tell when I go to copy a DVD and I'll see if it works with DVD shrink and Nero or not.

Well Nero 9, Roxio, CloneDVD all work for me. Burn at full rated speeds as well. So it should for you. Been using SF protected titles forever x 4 systems w/dual boot installs. (4 burners upgraded over this time often). Nary an issue to be found when creating DVD's, CD's.
