Technically, when you're 'purchasing' any software, you're just leasing it.

ED has been pretty good about accommodating people who use up their activations etc. What happens when ED is gone?

Nobody knows, but ED won't be gone for the next decade. They're not just an entertainment sim producer, they're now a firmly entrenched military sim producer as well.

Yes, stuff can happen - you could break a leg just walking on the sidewalk. Are you going to stop walking now? ;)

Relatively Minor risk, I would think ;)

After all - I'd like to believe that - *Heaven forbid the Day actually comes* - should ED no longer pursue the development of Flight Sims, rather than poke all their loyal customers in the Eye on their descent to Oblivion, they would make available a 'key' for us all to enjoy the fruit of their labours at our leisure.

And then again, I might be erring........I would however elect to ponder the probables if and when such an eventuality does arise........to do so now is rather premature.........IMHO of course :)

I've already "purchased" BS, but the main thing I was always interested in is whether I will still be able to install this game after ED is gone. The pattern of good software companies disappearing seemingly overnight is not at all unusual (Jane's, Looking Glass, etc.). So while I can still play LB2 or System Shock pretty much forever--in fact, I just finally finished SS2 a few months ago--I'm assuming that my purchased copy of BS will be useless when ED is gone. I mean technically, when you're "purchasing" this software, you're really just leasing it, right?

Just my 2 cents, and before I give them, I absolutely understand your point. Some people do play these simulations for years and years.

My 2 cents are from my personal perspective, which is just that, personal. I have found, over the years, that I move on to newer sims due to newer technology, and very rarely have to fire up old simulations to get what I want. As hardware and software advances, I am always amazed by what new simulations can do, and end up moving on and not looking back (well, looking back for comparisons, sure, but not for entertainment). So for someone like me, not knowing if ED will be around 5 or 10 years from now is probably not too much of a concern.

That being said, and back into the "global" and not "personal" mode, as protections go, it seems to me that ED has come up with a pretty good compromise. The fact you can uninstall and reinstall Black Shark multiple times, or that you can swap a certain amount of hardware without using any activations is great. Sure, an OS re-install or big hardware change will require using one, but most people don't really go through that too often (emphasis on "most", and hopefully Windows 7 will help in that arena).

Well, there you have it, my "for what it's worth" moment. And it ain't worth much, me thinks ;).

If you are a true flight simmer you CANNOT deny yourself this title. It is the most accurate study sim available. The immersion is uncomparable to anything else on the market today IMO.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Since those guys went out of the scene no decent company has gone since.....since....oh yeah....yesterday!

I have spent many hours flying this sim (ok, if you count the crashing part as flying) in multiplayer mode, as I must evaluate its feasability for inclusion in our online gaming group. I dont have a machine thats super fast (yours is better than mine) and I have not yet noticed any framerate crash or lagging while playing with 3 others online.

Im a F4 player, and I have to say this is the best sim I have ever bought. If your looking for Real, it doesnt get much better.

As for companies disappearing, that DOES happen, as its a fact of life. One year, 30 year, who can say. What I CAN say is dont underestimate the power of the gamers. Janes 688 was kept alive long after death by the sim community working with sonalyst members. Games had them bring in the 1.4 patch to help curb cheating. Same for Dangeous Waters, and the creation of the realism mod (LWAMI).

I am sure DCS will be here for a long time cranking out great moduals, but if one day they do "become no more", you can bet the sim players (maybe some reading this forum) will pick up the pieces and move forward.

Anyway, This is probably the best sim I have purchased, no regrets at all.

Why someone would persuade you for buying masterpiece at a giveaway price.

Spend where? Best sim that would be out 1 or 2 in a decade.

There are so damn many reviews, blogs, and infos about BS.

Thinking over and over but it's so much idiotic manner that I can't pass over this thread.

How about you go **** yourself. Your comment would be applicable for standard games, but for a specialist game like this, your comment is foolish and damaging.

Just like you don't just buy a house based on its looks, the same applies here. This game would not be half the game without a decent community and support.....

And I'm sure if you asked one mods/owners if they would like people supporting their product by enticing others.....im sure they would like it.

What's with the "Convince me plz, my ego is soo big" attitude in the forums recently? Do some Google for review/previews and videos, read through forums and DCS website and decide for yourself.

Wow..... I can just see you running a sucessful business. If I was a small minded person, I would take it personally, **** off and go and pirate myself a copy. Thankfully most people here have been fantastic and supportive, something which is enticing me to purchase this software.

No point having a complex sim without having a great community to work with :)

Thank you very much Rockstar, will probably purchase it later :)

Dont pay too much attention to those that come across in a belittling manner, as I have found most of the people here extreamly nice and helpfull. You always get a few that will have attitude problems or god complexes, it is just that way as in real life.

In all my short time here on this forum, I have nothing but good things to say, as I have learned more with the help of people here than i did reading the manual 5 times (yea, and Im getting ready to read it again lol).

Woah, no need to start a flamewar here over nothing. The game's quality speaks for itself IMHO, nobody needs to persuade you to buy this game, except maybe the publisher. The reviews have been very positive so far, those of users and professional reviewers, i guess there's not many cons regarding the game. Still, your decision, take it or leave it ;)

Well I bit the bullet and purchased it last night. So far I have learned the start-up procedure and basic flight controls. This game is (on simulation) unforgiving. Being so, makes it a blast! I now need to learn how to start up the TV and control my weapons system. The tutorial gave me no information on how to turn it on.

In any case, I would say so far it looks like money well spent. If you have an extra 50 bucks, go for it.

It doesn't have to be extra! Take it from the grocery budget, the kids' college fund, whatever, just buy it :)

Glad you're enjoying it.
