Bisch Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 First of all, I love BS and made two friends buying it. It'll take months to get good at it I guess. But being interessted in multiple ways of gaming and sim gaming I ask myself if DCS will release player controlled, fully simulated non-flyable units like ships, tanks, anti-aircraft-units or maybe even infantry (I ve read you even can walk home after ejecting). So far I only know that A10, AH64 and a Hind is planned. But looking on the very generic name DCS and the layout of the homepage makes me think DCS will go this direction. At least with 3rd party support. Even if there would be units I don't want to play or buy (but I guess I would buy all) it would be great to play against human controlled surface units. So some kind of Dangerous Waters concept - just better and larger. Perhaps a high fidelity hardcore "Armed Assault" (without it's bugs) I haven't found any infos about the DCS concept concerning this point. Are there any infos somewhere out in the web. Perhaps an interview, posting of a DCS employee or sth else? airea Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I dont think that, in any part of its future life, DCS will turn out to be something like Armed Assault... Maybe the ground troops could be controlled in a way like strategy games, but some sort of high fidelity hardcore fps elements would make the game very huge...
Pfadfinder Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 But looking on the very generic name DCS and the layout of the homepage makes me think DCS will go this direction. At least with 3rd party support. Thought exactly the same, would be really cool to have an simulation of an complete Battlefield. But dont really believe in it, maybe the name Digital Combat Flightsimulator had been the better choice;) Lt. Jake Grafton: "Fighter pukes make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY!"
Bisch Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Putting work into controlable surface units would reduce work on better AI. ;) At least for those few guys like me who prefer multiplayer sim gaming. PS: It's possible. Already the very old "WWII Online" had inf, planes, vehicles and ships on a large scale battlefield with focus on realismus. It even already had a persistant campaign and hundreds of players in "one world". Could have been better but it was the same concept and it was working.... despite the hardware and network limitations compared to today Edited January 30, 2009 by Atelophobia Win 10 Pro | Trustmaster Warthog | MFG Rudders | VivePro Wireless Gear Lens modded | 1080ti OC Asus | 32 GB DD4 RAM | i7 9700 | Razer Chroma Orbweaver Keypad | Corsair KB | Derek Switchbox | USB Keypad | Logitech 502 | Jetseat with SimShaker Software | TrackIR5 | Autotkey | Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs | Monstertech Mounts | Saitek Throttle Quadrant
Mad Dog 7.62 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I believe that an integrated simulation of various ground, sea and air platforms was what was originally envisioned and is the reason for the "Digital Combat Simulator" brand name, and why they show tanks, ships, helo's and planes on thier logo on thier home page. Of course that was a long time ago.....for now lets just hope for the next aircraft to not take nearly as long as the Ka-50 did....tanks and ships might be a ways in the future. Bisch Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Well, next units should be released faster than the Ka50. They already have put a lot of work into organisation and basic code which will also be the base of future releases Win 10 Pro | Trustmaster Warthog | MFG Rudders | VivePro Wireless Gear Lens modded | 1080ti OC Asus | 32 GB DD4 RAM | i7 9700 | Razer Chroma Orbweaver Keypad | Corsair KB | Derek Switchbox | USB Keypad | Logitech 502 | Jetseat with SimShaker Software | TrackIR5 | Autotkey | Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs | Monstertech Mounts | Saitek Throttle Quadrant
Mad Dog 7.62 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Maybe, but the next release is supposed to use a whole new game engine, right? So in a way they are starting from scratch again. amalahama Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Maybe, but the next release is supposed to use a whole new game engine, right? Interesting question. I have not idea either. Looking to Hawg11's new scenery, it looks like the graphical engine will be the same in DCS:A-10. Regards!!
Mogster Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I actually hope they concentrate on aircraft. There are other options for ground war from sim to arcade, but none for detailed flight simulation. Driveable ground units would take resources away from the flight sim side, ED have had problems with protracted development schedules in the past. The development of Black Shark took long enough, I'd be surprised (but very happy) to see DCS A10 ship this year.
Bisch Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 I got your point Mogster and I understand it. But there's at least one real great flight sim - otherwise you wouldn't be here ;) (and there are great games like Lock on, Il2 etc) But there's no such combined arms game on sim level. However, I did talk about the (far) future of DCS. When we ve got our AH64, our A10 and perhaps a figher plane or whatever.... then there should be enough to fly around to start creating controlable vehicles. This would attract additional customers too. Those who like the specific vehicle (tank simmers, ships simmer or whatever) and those who like a game that simulates land, air and see units Win 10 Pro | Trustmaster Warthog | MFG Rudders | VivePro Wireless Gear Lens modded | 1080ti OC Asus | 32 GB DD4 RAM | i7 9700 | Razer Chroma Orbweaver Keypad | Corsair KB | Derek Switchbox | USB Keypad | Logitech 502 | Jetseat with SimShaker Software | TrackIR5 | Autotkey | Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs | Monstertech Mounts | Saitek Throttle Quadrant
Chibawang Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I think it would be cool, especially with the A-10 which communicates with ground forces quite extensively for targetting info and such. They even have a gun camera mounted on the Hawg that transmits what the pilot is seeing to the ground troops. It would be a very rich layer of depth slathered on top of an already extremely deep and immersive simulation. But personally, once the A-10C module is out I will be happy for a long long time. I'm unspeakably pleased they chose to do the Warthog second, and other than patches and improvements, I would be completely content without any major components being added. Not to say I don't want them, it's just that the A-10 is the creme de la creme for me. :)
Bisch Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 True the A10 is beatiful and I really look forward to it. Haven't played a A10 sim since "A10 tank killer" on Amiga ^^ But flying A10 against human controlled ground targets is way better than flying A10 against AI controlled ground targets ;) You are right about the communication...the modern setting of DCS and the electronical warfare makes a multi-plattform-simulation even more interessting. Teamplay possibilities would multiply themselves Win 10 Pro | Trustmaster Warthog | MFG Rudders | VivePro Wireless Gear Lens modded | 1080ti OC Asus | 32 GB DD4 RAM | i7 9700 | Razer Chroma Orbweaver Keypad | Corsair KB | Derek Switchbox | USB Keypad | Logitech 502 | Jetseat with SimShaker Software | TrackIR5 | Autotkey | Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs | Monstertech Mounts | Saitek Throttle Quadrant
Belphe Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 As to the Warthog... which A-10 are we going to get: - A-10A or - A-10C ? :pilotfly: Never say never, Baby! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deviletk Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Just read the forum a bit will ya guys! ;) There is info about almost everything concerning DCS and BS around here. Press the "2" link at the bottom to check the previous page and youll even find nice pictures of the A-10 released as a treat to us. (you can't miss the thread). This first page of the BS forum isnt the only side that is "active". Go back some pages and youll have a good read and learn a lot about most things going on here. Just a tips from a friend.
