Hi,

 

DCS OB doesn't start and I have this message after the today update:

Waiting for another application copy to release c:\users\XXX\saved Games\DCS Openbeta

Had the same problem. Running the exe as administrator fixed it for me.

In fact, "Ctrl Alt Suppr" and I saw DCS.exe in use yet. After closing the application and restart, all was ok

I've started to experience this after the latest patch ... gosh, I wish the launcher showed the version just like DCS main screen does! The Hook updated, you know.

I've not started DCS before since last restart (yes, I completely shutdown and restart my computer), so I guess this is somehow Launcher related?

I exited from the error, found dcs.exe in Task Manager/Details, stopped it, tried again and started the game just fine.

The version is MT preview 2.9.7.58923

Unfortunately this likely isn't going to help in this case, but thought I mention that doing a complete shutdown usually (unless you have it set not to) actually just hibernates your computer for faster startup.  While that was the correct way to do it in the "olden days" (yikes, I'm dating myself now ), these days you want to do a RESTART from the power menu rather than a power off if you want to reset everything in Windows.

Yeah, I've heard about shutdown being "less shutdown" then restart, was shocked by the info and turned it off somehow. There is a checkbox "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" for that which is ON by default, I set it off. So that should do it.

But good you mentioned it, because that can drive users nuts why some things are not fully restarted after shutdown!

EDIT: tl;dr: Try killing the other dcs.exe process. If that doesn't help, try waiting for a few minutes.

Aaargh... I though I'll not need to return to this thread. However, just killing dcs.exe did not help me this evening (tried a couple of times). Restart didn't help either. I didn't do anything wrong, yet I can't play the game!

Why isn't the launcher process finishing? What is it doing? It's not just a matter of waiting, it's been taking minutes already!

Please, any tester or ED stuff, what can be the reason for this? Before the launcher I hadn't had this problem... although I didn't suffer from it before the most recent 2024-08-09 update.

Can this be in any way related to my other woes - suffering from the routing through colt.net?

I'm probably seeing things at this moment, but I just want to start the game, nothing else.

Not really an edit, just writing the post for some time "helped". After MORE minutes the game started. So... I guess, try killing dcs.exe to try again, I'm not sure about restart, but other than thet - just wait for few more minutes to start the game?

I'm asking about the network problems, because I don't know what else can seemingly randomly cause this delay in start. It's not 100% repeatable, even after the latest patch the game sometimes starts just fine. But ED guys, you programmed the launcher and its interaction with the game, you know what may cause this. I have no clue, really. For me the "black box" just started to behave worse.

I believe this error is caused when the Language app in the top right corner of the new launcher is loading. .If you want to try an experiment Start DCS , when the launcher starts look in the top right corner. There are two items there. Your LOG IN  name and the Language (Looks like a Globe). If the language is still loading you see a rotating Radar scope.

If you wait until the language loads you will not get the "waiting app" message.

If you don't wait and try to launch DCS You will get the "Waiting for another application" message.

interesting observation. i see that here now that you mention it.
