dburne
Important to note - these well known "youtubers" have to sign an NDA with Pimax that they can not reveal certain - well let's say aspects - of the current unit they are reviewing. It will be more interesting to see real world comments from real world users that actually buy this thing and plan on using it on a regular basis. In the meantime this is just Pimax doing business the same old Pimax way. 12 1 Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
winghunter
At least flight sim guy has shared quite a lot of critique of the initial Pimax Crystal setup ( in another video). I believe one of them at least has paid full price for one of these units, I don’t think I’d be signing anything if that were the case. Pimax does discuss on their Discord page discounts that may be open to people that promote their products with incentives for more followers such as small discounts per purchase. Broadly I agree with you that more clearly objective reviews are better than not, I’d just want to be clear about what agreements others may or may not have. i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. Coming from the Defense industry, NDAs are used to protect IP right and limit disclosure of company information to third parties. It is not to prevent people to do evaluation of a product. That is not to say that there can't be some bug disclosure restriction agreement made but it would not be called an NDA. Youtuber need vues and subcriptions to make money and it is entirely possible that some could be greedy and agree to omit some stuff in order to get first look privileges. When the Crystal comes in our community's simmers hand, then we will have a better picture of how good it is. For now, I based my assessment on pure specs and personnal experience with Pimax, I think the Crystal will be very good in DCS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i9-13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB, ADDLINK S72 2TB, TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS OB, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3. Air Joker
Sebastian from MRTV didn't get a muzzle from Pimax. A few days ago he received the final sales version of the Pimax Crystal (like the "FlightSimGuy" and "Fin does Sims"). Everyone who owns the final version, that I've seen, has reported that the installation and software was absolutely problem-free. There were problems with pre-series models and beta models. These have been fixed in the final version! So you have to take a very close look at which version the respective Youtuber has, before you make a judgment. I've been following the development of the Pimax Crystal for many months and it's obvious that the Crystal is getting better and better... Willie Nelson
For those of us that are sufficiently comfortable with VR, the critiques in the above review may seem nothing to worry about but for those that hear how much potential this headset has and buys it as their first VR experience, it could be a handful. I’m all in FWIW but, I think she makes some good points about the user interface. 2 i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. That's exactly what I was talking about: "So you have to take a very close look at which version the respective Youtuber has, before you make a judgment." Disco-VR is the prominent victim of the last major update a few days ago and the final Crystal version. She didn't have either when she made the video. So she had to deal with the pre-series problems of the headset and outdated software. To put it briefly...this video is no longer up-to-date and no longer reflects the current state of development. Disco VR put a lot of work into the video but was unlucky at the timing. Other VR enthusiasts were testing the Pimax-Crystal with the new software and some partly also with the final version...and their problems were gone. They said it was as close to "Plug and Play" as it can get! Listen to these 5 minutes and everything will be explained : At the moment DiscoVR released her video about the Crystal problems, it was already out of date. kerlcat
No one did a formal review yet. Even Seba from MRTV said it's unbox & 1st impression(again) on the final production. Closely following up the progress of Crystal's final release. So far its clarity is the king and ... that's it. It shouldn't take long to hear more as formal review from more mainstream IT media. Then we 'll have better idea to pull the trigger or not. No matter Pimax 's reputation so far. Cross finger to them & their Crystal and 12K... as we need more options who care about PCVR. Air Joker
Meanwhile, Sebastian (MRTV) has tested the final Crystal-Version with several racing games...and he highly recommends it for any kind of simulation. FlightSimGay also highly recommended the Pimax Crystal for DCS. In my opinion, there is currently no need to test the Crystal again. What new insights will this bring? I guess everything is known at the moment. And I think, each sim-pilot can now decide whether to order or not . With the new software and final version it seems to be running smoothly and for simulationfreaks it seems to be a "must have", if you're willing to pay the price. New tests are required when new features are integrated, such as standalone, eye tracking, wireless, and so on...just my two cents. And yes, we need more options in PCVR. Unfortunately I don't see any in the near future. That's why I'm going to buy the Crystal. Press samples often come with a written manual how to test them and what is allowed to get tested and shown - and those guidelines are part of such NDAs in most cases too. dburne
Maybe - I stopped watching his vids after he proclaimed Varjo's first iteration of their Motion Reprojection in the Aero to be absolutely perfect with no anamolies. I love my Aero but Varjo's first attempt was pretty bad imho And it still is not up to snuff enough for me to use it yet so I continue to prefer using Aero without Motion Reprojection. I just don't feel like he is on total up and up any longer, Tries to please them all I guess. Looking forward to real world every day folks reports whenever they finally get their units.
