After a long pause, I'm back at it again. I'm resuming my work on vegetation, urban and water layers. As I was struggling to select only forest areas in GIMP, because the transparent green layer mixes with different soil colours, I remembered an old trick: these layers can be hidden by editing the "hiddensemantics" of the .\DCS World OpenBeta\Config\terrain\terrainoptions41.lua file.

Here's what I get:

This is now much easier to work with the forest layer.

Work preparation is what sets a professional apart 😉

If you're making new map files - how about adding the labels for towns and cities in the West Bank that are modelled, but not named on the alt / sat maps?

Cheers.

I can add labels, of course. Do you have a list?

By the way, the project is on hold, but I might have some more free time soon.

Back in business!

I had to reinstall Quantum GIS 2 which, for some reason, is often way faster to simplify polygons. Next step: rivers. I'll have to draw them by hand, unless I find a new way of doing it.

Time for an update. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a working script to automatically trace all rivers (that one doesn't work at all). This means I have to draw 100% of rivers by hand, and it's a very long process. I've just finished Cyprus and the western part of Turkey. It's only the beginning... and my current map is based on the early 2024 version of the Syria terrain.

Below: red = done

Thank you. The project is on hold for now, unfortunately. This map represents too much work and I'm already very busy with bugs reporting and beta testing.
