Kuky Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) I have Catalyst 9.2 installed and I can say they are not the best for CrossFire users... V-Sync does not work properly with these for me (I use 2x HD4870 cards) causing stutters. Disabling Catalyst AI (this disables CrossFire also) and stuttering is gone (because only 1 card is being used) EDIT: after getting 2 complete system lockups with LockOn (never happened before like this) I got rid of 9.2 and I'm back to 8.12 again... much better now :) Edited February 22, 2009 by Kuky PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

Kuky Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Hi Kuky, The 9.2 drives do work though for Black Shark minus Catalyst AI? Thanks, Matt Sorry Wags, I haven't tried Black Shark with Catalyst 9.2, only LockOn. PS: Actually since I've been having more glitches with other games also (ArmA is very stuttery frequently with CrossFire enabled). Last night I took one card out and left my system with single HD4870 and I'll be selling the other. There's just to many glitches / problems that happen with multi GPU setups and I'm disapointed to spent so much money on hardware that doesn't work well. EDIT: When I get back home tonight I'll put second card in again and reinstall 9.2 and try to see how's Black Shark's running Edited February 23, 2009 by Kuky PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
VMFA117_Poko Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Kuky! You know what? I have similar (micro)stuttery as you wrote me some time earlier but this happens only on XP. I have no glitches, no errors on Vista 64 (not including issue with atiumdx.dll couple posts above - problem solved).
Schuetz Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I tested the catalyst driver 9.2 yesterday and I didn`t have any problems like micro-stutters. My System Conifguration: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 4GRam, ATI Radeon 2900XT
Mustang Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 I tested the catalyst driver 9.2 yesterday and I didn`t have any problems like micro-stutters. My System Conifguration: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 4GRam, ATI Radeon 2900XT Thats because the frame stuttering seems only to affect multi-core and crossfire users, single card/GPU configurations like your 2900XT (or my HD3850) are totally unaffected.
Kuky Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) After some little time I got last night I put back the second HD4870 and ran Black Shark with Crossfire and Catalyst 9.2 and Windows XP Pro SP3. I can say Black Shark was playing good (I tried only single player). I did not have stuttering (there is always small glitch here and there, usually at the begining when textures are being loaded for the first time as you look around, chage to external view etc). I did two tests with Crossfire disabled and enabled and from memory I got 18/35 fps MIN/AVG with Crossfire off and 19/43 fps MIN/AVG with Crossfire on (1920x1200 8xAA 16xAF HQ V-sync on). I have to say I could not complain... visually they were both about the same smoothness. I also noticed 3 times I did ALT/TAB to change CPU affinity every time I got graphics corruption in the clouds and there were all flashing. EDIT: Just to add to this, this time when I reinstalled Catalyst 9.2 I went the longer procedure where I had only single card on the motherboard... installed Catalyst 9.2 (first the driver, then HDMI audio driver, then CCC every time did system reboot) then plugged the second card in but with no Crossfire cable) let the card install, reboot and as last connected Crossfire cable. JG14_Smil Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hello, I wanted to share my test results of Cat 9.2. I tried 9.1, but went back to 8.12 in the past. BS is running at 1920x1200 with every option maxed out (even water). 4870x2 with every option maxed out(except as noted below), dual 3.2 gig CPU, vista 64 bit, D3D overrider for Vsync. (Riva tuner not running). With advanced AI Catalyst BS would not run. Changing to Standard AI Cat, BS works well. When I run Crossfire, colors are much improved, menus are ghosted over each other in between flights. With or without crossfire, I had no more 'ground surges" when flying fast and low. Framerates are 24-40's / BS normal startup, 35-50's with 4 cores enabled manually. When I start BS with the dscaff script for i7 8 core, at first I saw no FPS improvement. I remembered that the script took longer to enable the cores. I checked Affinity after waiting a bit, but only one core was enabled, I then went back to the sim to exit. My fps then went to 45-60 (I guess all cores kicked in). I have to say I like 9.2. I will test BS more with crossfire enabled and live with the ghosting menus. I lost a flickering I had with 8.12 and 9.1 that seemed like the haze in the distance would flicker with the rotor shadows (but I noticed the flicker with out rotors running too). I am glad that is gone. Vsync, even with D3D overrider does not work in windowed mode, which costs me the usual 20 fps, so I don't miss it. Vsync works fine in full screen mode with D3D overrider running. 1
