Hi All.

I've got a few peripherals that require an extension

Though I may have enough 3.0 USB ports on my system, I also have a boatload of peripherals, as I don't want to exceed the MB USB powerdelivery, I'm not willing to simply extend cables

And the trouble I have with my current hub, is that the connectors are cheap and not really doing a great job keeping the gear connected

So I'm looking for quality over quantity

  • No bottlenecks due to the hub itself
  • Good power delivery
  • Connectors are solid
  • USB A connection

I don't need 100 connections, 2x a 3 or 4 port is more than enough

If they happen to have a powerswitch, that'd be a great bonus

What are some of the brands/types I should be looking at?

Thanks!

These looks great. Too bad they only seem to come with US connectors without adapters.
Does anyone know of alternatives?

....select "Language/Currency" and on "Plug Type" select according to your preference (i.e, US / UK / EU).

All these models are also available on Amazon (US, UK, DE, FR, ES, IT, NL, etc).

Works great, never a problem with it connecting my devices.

Nice

I'd try to keep the bandwidth sharing to a minimum

My MB has 10x 3.2 (8x 5GHz, 2x 10 GHz) on the back, 4x 2.0 bracket from the internal connector

Looking at the block diagram, I'm pretty sure those 8x 5GHz are 2x 4 ports shared bandwidth (the 2.0 most certainly), the 10 GHz are dedicated

Luckily, I also have a 4x 3.0 (dedicated 4x chipset) from the Startech PCIe card

Got another 4x 3.2 ports in front if need be, and I could use the Front USB C 20 Ghz internal connector and TB internal connector on the MB for another USB adapter bracket

...and still have a 1x PCIe open for another card 😅

Currently running 12 usb peripherals (of which 4 on a hub), so I've got more than i need

A Z790 has a ton of possibilities, but I wonder where the USB power limit lies (and don't want to find out, had this issue with a MSI Z370 board in the past)

Well, got really irritated with loosing connection/USB (dis)connect beeps when not playing, nothing available on short notice, so rode to the local PC shop to see what they got

Asked to see a few hubs and try them with USB cables, see which ones were the most sturdy, and ended up with 2 i-tec 7-ports 3.0 hubs

Didn't need 7-ports, but they were (surprisingly) cheap, and allowed for putting some extra non-data USB gadgets under an on/off switch

Bonus cleaning up the furball of wires hanging off the back of my PC

I’m currently using x3 Anker 10 port units.  It’s called 10, but 3 are charging only (not data). So in reality it’s only 7 per unit.  None have failed as yet, which is why I’ve ended up with multiple units

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
