What I'm seeing it doesn't disappear but it freezes(keeping a false reading) after banking or pitching more then 10 degrees until you go back under 10 degrees. Do you see that as well?

Here is the other thread:

It works as intended. Inn the HUD is shown the true airspeed messured by the ground doppler radar. If the angle of pitch or roll is bigger than 10 degress, the grond doppler radar cannot work precisly. So u need to to look at the anolog speedmeter or in the upper left cornor of the skhval for indicated airspeed.

Some times it disappear for me during normal stable straight flight

Track or it didn't happen™. 😉 j/k

I fly the BS3 the most, and unless I'm evading/being aggressive with the controls, I've never seen the HUD speed disappear.

Do y'all have more details on this, or can we safely assume that over-steering (throwing off radar/gyros) might be the case? I could not find a 10° reference in the manual.

I had the same issue yesterday, unfortunately in a lengthy multiplayer Session, so a track probably would not help.

speed in HUD just was not there, from takeoff on. I used auto start, so probably it was not an issue with me doing wrong switchology. I tortured the targeting reset button, to no avail. I’ve been in within working parameters of the Doppler all the time ( take off, fly to AO feet wet).

then, after 8 minutes of flight, it just popped up and was there again.

tried to recreate for track, issue did not come up

I see the HUD speed indication disappearing almost regularly in a scenario where I take cover on the ground to evade an impending fighter attack. When the threat is gone and I take off and fly back to the battle scene, it takes quite a while before I see the speed indication in the HUD. In that phase I don't do any wild manoeuvering.

Yeah, Doppler thing on the tail needs to point at the ground in a reasonable angle, otherwise it won’t work. That’s a given.

In my case, I took of from Tarawa and flew 24nm straight and level - with no speed indication in HUD.

EDIT: Correction.

In that case, you didn't wait long enough for PNK-800 (K-041 switch) to finish alignment.

That might explain it.

I was using Autostart. I thought once its done im good to go.

So, turns out that Speed indication only shows when you have no weight on wheels 🙂 Or at least, it does for me.

Just to correct that, yes, you won't see the speed indication with weight on wheels. The GS is provided by the doppler radar, which is a part of PNK-800 Flight Navigation System (a component of PR-PNK). The specific computational mode, is disabled with weight-on-wheels, and only gets enabled when there is no weight-on-wheels. Thus, turn on K-041 switch, and wait three minutes. Upon lift-off, you'll have the GS-readout in the HUD.
