razorseal Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Yep you heard me... I haven't played in a bit, so I forgot some of the specifics of each jet. I was excited to get the F15E... in 1 day, i flew the A10, F16, Harrier, J17, and the F15. read up manuals and yt videos. I can't decide what to fly, what bombs to drop. I'm overwhelmed guys. I can't pick a plane!!! just wanted to share. I'm having a blast. lol 1

With practice and refreshing my memory, I'll regain my skills and precision. It's about relearning the mechanics and seeking helpful resources to become a skilled pilot again."

Slippa Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I have been flying this sim for a couple of years on and off. I forget which bindings I have set for different modules, quite often when I’m over a target, if I can see them. With practice, I will remember a few things and still forget others. My graphics settings or possibly something else prevents me from actually seeing targets until I’m in very close proximity to them. I see targets on the map, empty fields below until I’m close enough to… pass them by, or be taken down. I”m having a blast too. Trouble is, a lot of them are caused by the enemy. Some maps are better than others in revealing targets. Some aircraft are simpler than others to operate or remember what’s what. I’m becoming very proficient in confusing the enemy by diving in to ‘deliver my package’ and swooping out, newly camouflaged as a colander and flying erratically, albeit, much lighter. On the off chance my wings will take me back towards the target, being so holed can make spotting on the second time around a little easier, I can see them from all angles through what’s left of the fuselage. Often, by then I’m being targeted by all and sundry and mercifully, the excitement is usually short lived. It’s good innit? 1

You don't need anything apart from basic primary and secondary flight controls for that. Then if you want to do missions and put warheads on foreheads, you should indeed pick a module at a time and dive into it. Start with the Chucks Guide for the module and dive into the mission editor. No one can tell you which Aircraft you should start with of course. I would advise to pick one that you have a passion for. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted July 18, 2023 ED Team Posted July 18, 2023 Take your time learning, it is not a race, I think I have forgotten more than I know and I fly every day. Its impossible to know everything especially when switching between air frames. Use check lists and resources online with guides and videos to refresh memory and you will be fine. More than anything just enjoy what you want to do at your own pace, when you are ready find a squadron of like minded people and you will find it easier to learn. 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? razorseal Posted July 18, 2023 Author Posted July 18, 2023 And I totally jinxed myself. my 1 month old 990 pro m.2 just failed. game was on it. windows sometimes sees it, and sometimes it doesn't. just RMA'd and now reinstalling DCS all over again. lost all my joystick configurations too. damn...
Hiob Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Ouch, that sucks..... "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
RatMan Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 As a DCS hoarder, I certainly understand that it's possible to collect 'em all, but it's impossible to know 'em all. That's made me appreciate the growing stable of older aircraft for variety and try to focus only on a couple newer ones. I also think a big part of the fun is learning and practicing, whether it's the familiarity of hopping in the P-51 or Huey, or maintaining Hornet skills on the boat or in the air. Spending some time focusing on one aircraft, and then going out and utilizing the stuff you practiced in a campaign or on a server, is really satisfying. Doesn't even matter which aircraft. 2

Damn man, did you have magician installed, no warnings prior? I'm really worried since most of my nvme drives are Samsungs and i've heard maaany going down recently. Love the F16 HOTAS but hate the short legs and low payload. Love F15 max weight and fuel but hate not having enough smart weapons. Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.

I did have magician installed. No warnings. Out of 10 resets, I saw it maybe twice when I started to have issues. Completely random. The ither is a Samsung too and thst one seems fine. Just pita... rma was quick, just gotta mail it back. And you're Completely right. I enjoy the f16 the most, but still have issues (like pre mode on mavs) and low fuel and light payload. F18 I haven't flown much recently. I have been enjoying the f15 alot, but still need to learn it better and wish I had a back seater. It's Def doable alone though. Also hoping we had jdams and hmcs soon. I've been having fun with the a10. Load it up with gbu54s, and go hit lased targets by jtac on mp servers. Was having a blast with apache when it came out too but forgot how-to fly thst thing now. Thst being said, i just cant decide what to fly! you understand my dilemma. Honorable mention goes to the harrier as it's a fast jet (albeit short legs) that can drop some gbu54s!
