Not sure where you came up with that ... unless you're flying some sort of stealth ka-50 or 64, 'cause those rotors ... pingpingping.

And that's assuming you make it as fasr as that base, too. ;)

I'm talking from experience with LB2 in MP yeah if the gunship manages to slip past any CAP and find your airbase its turkey shoot. Also the ground effect masks the helicopter if he flys low enough in Lockon if DCS has the same radar modelling then the same is possible. If the A-10s have no AWACs then its a visual fight who ever sees who first has the advantage.

The same LB2 where you're set up to have a chance against fighters?

The same LB2 where you can fly across the map 10 times on one tank of fuel? ;)

Further:

DCS will have much more advanced radar modeling.

I can see aircraft on their landing roll on radar - what 'ground effect masking'?

And, if its visual, the A-10C has the best chances: IIR Pod search FTW.

O my .... My eyes. They bleed. I didn't want to cause that with my question ! Just blame me, the damn frog !

But HOLD ON :

I can see aircraft on their landing roll on radar

You are actually flying the A10 and i'm not.

The A-10 has no radar. I'm talking about LO, since that was the comparison that was being made.

The A-10C has a nice targeting pod though ;)

With LB2 I'm refering to an incident where the guy I was flying against located the spawn point and camped there picking me off with the 30mm. And that could happen like I said if they located your base or managed to sneak there. With the A-10C in DCS you're still mostly using the eyeball to locate the helicopter with a pod you would have an advantage in the A-10 but thats so long as the AAA and SAMs are not present otherwise the pilot is going to have to be flying low. It'll be different when a faster more capable jet like an F-16 is modeled as they have the advantage of both radar and datalink. With radar it depends on the Block or type thats modeled the older generation radar you can lose tgts if they are low enough modern A/G radar though will pick up everything including a fence in A/G mode. And even then properly modeled radar won't detect aircraft hiding in deadground or behind trees.:music_whistling:

Speaking of radar, once that is modeled, will it pick up my Ka-50 if I fly next to a BUS/Truck/Car ?

Because that could also be used for cover, or a least to fool hog pilots while flying from town to town.

Why would it fool a radar? The rotors have a very specific signature ;)

Um, okay. Let me put it this way ... an AIR TO AIR radar will pick up spinning rotors even if you're sitting on the ground. You'd have to go pretty far back to not have such a radar available. As for hiding behind 'deadground' ... that's what altitude is for ;)

And the A-10C -does- sport a datalink ... and don't knock the pod, high or low its a big advantage.

I am sceptical regarding the use of the FLIR as a search device in an air-air situation, especially when flying low. I can't remember the ATFLIR to be very useful in air-air in Jane's F/A-18 (except for IDing radar targets). I would put my money on the Mk.1 eyeball.

There's no HMS. There a datalink.

The ultimate is DAS EO which is on the F35, Flir is good for A/A for Id'ing aircraft from a distance.

If you're sitting behind a building or hiding in a forest it probably won't pick it up although the pods TI would pick it up in a forest.
