Trying to launch DCS Open Beta, DCS is pulling information from the DCS folder and not DCS Open Beta. None of my skins are showing up, no missions, no config files, I physically have to rename my DCS Open Beta folder to DCS. Ive tried updating, repairs, nothing working. Even my joystick profiles are all gone and Im not sure what happened here. Im not using DCS Stable.

the last log was from 8/19/2023 in my OB folder so I know it worked before. Heres the freshest one out of the DCS folder.

Ok, currently your dcs is using the folder: C:\Users\Utley\Saved Games\DCS\

can you show me what other folders are at C:\Users\Utley\Saved Games\ ?

i find it strange that you have DCS installed on drive B: … windows treats A: and B: as special removable drives, how did you end up with that setup?

I have it installed in B drive to keep things organized. No, it hasnt caused any problems. None of my games, save for MSFS is installed on the main directory.

This is my saved games folder. And to be clear, I identified that drive as B drive. Its just another M.2 stick.

Ok, I’m an old fart, so to me it was a bit strange seeing a drive volume use those letters .. here is some more info in that:

Ok, I will assume that your correct dcs data folder is "DCS.openbeta" .. you can force DCS to use it by placing a text file named "dcs_variant.txt" in the root directory of the DCS program. The file should contain only the name of the saved games folder, on this case

openbeta

This will force DCS to place its config data at

c : \ Users \% USERNAME% \ Saved Games \ DCS.openbeta

Give it a try.

Not working, still not seeing anything in Open Beta, and its always constantly asking for my password even when I log in and click remember pw and login info.

However....

OK...after taking the suggestion, I just input openbeta in text and nothing more. Now its seeing my saved games folder again, thanks!

The file should contain only

openbeta

@Rudel_chw 's procedure is the correct one.
When you install DCS stable it doesn't contain the dcs_variant.txt file.
When you install OpenBeta it will create the dcs_variant.txt file with "openbeta" in it. Somehow it got lost. As Rudel writes, you can force DCS you use whatever "DCS.whatever" Saved Games folder you want by placing "whatever" in the file.

Cheers!
