Detailed pictures of the aircraft, cockpit and landing gear. http://s96920072.onlinehome.us/AWA1/101-200/walk144_fulcrum/walk144.htm

Here’s some info I heard on discover wings from an RAF/test pilot who was the first or one of the first western pilots to fly the Mig29;

This is from memory but still pretty accurate:

“when we entered the top of the tail slide the Russian pilot told me to lead with the left throttle. Ok so just as the Mig starts to slide back on itself I add a little left throttle and start to advance the right …but the Mig still Yaws to the left [Russian pilot; “I have control..”] You have control.. [Russian pilot; “Let me show you.”] He takes me through another tail slide and once again we reach the top of the slide but this time he’s in control. I have one eye on the control panel and one eye on the throttles…Left throttle goes full forward all the way, then in quick succession the right throttle kicks in and we fall back perfectly.”

Hi,

....you know I had to

Cheers,

Heh, was always going to happen . . . .

Interesting technical question here - we often see various Russian aircraft displayed without wing pylons. Are they intentionally (and permanently) built this way, or is it possible to remove and replace the pylons as a routine procedure?

They can be removed and replaced - in order to drop bombs off pylons 1 and 2 on the MiG-29, you have to install different pylons than those used for the R-27

Hi Britglider,

Yes the pylons are detachable and interchangable - if you look at the picture I posted of the MiG-29K, you can see the attatchment points as two sets of dots on the underside of the upward folded wingtip. :) .

As Octavian said, different weapons require different launcher racks e.g...

R-27R, R-27RE, R-27T, R-27TE = APU-470 rail launcher(wing) or AKU 470 ejector rack(for engine intake stations on Su-27).

R-73 = APU-73 rail launcher

R-77 = AKU-170 ejector launcher

Air to surface missiles such as: Kh-29(L/T), Kh-31(A/P) and Kh-35 use an ejector launcher called AKU-58.

The MiG-29K can only carry the above mentioned heavy air-to-surface missiles on pylons 3 & 7 + 4 & 6(the two inner pylons on each wing) though.

Cheers,

- JJ.

Very high quality, Very detailed, very rare, and a pretty quick download rate for its gargantuam size!

*note, the daily bandwith may have been used up. If so, Wait till the next day for it to be renewed.

Hey how come we don't see this kinda data in lock-on's migs?

What, the HDD acting as a HUD repeater?

Limited information and time when the Russian avionics were being written - the MiG29 avionics are essentially identical to those in the Su27 in other respects, so I guess it was just a copy/paste job.

ED seem to have dug up a treasure trove of information on all these aircraft recently, and know about the correct HDD modes . . . . give it long enough, and we'll see it all in Lomac :)

That was intoduced with the MiG-29SMTs. They can be fitted to the S version aswell. They are simple bolt on kits.

The MiG-29M2 has a nice, almost fully built in one. I think the K version has that aswell.

...and it was the first MiG-29 version to have inflight refuelling capability.

The MiG-29M2 in your photo is the two-seat version of the new MiG-29M(9-25) - the original MiG-29M(9-15) from the late eighties didnt have an IFR probe.

Very nice pic.

Alfa the early MiG-29M of the eighties is model 9-15. The new model M and M2 are model 9-15D. I never seen the 9-25 model number before.

I read that India are getting some MiG-29K (9-31) fighters later this year. They were offered advanced versions of the K (9-41) and a two seat MiG-29KUB (9-47) but I think they went for the standard k model.

Another pic of the MiG-29SMT. Note the large missile. It's the Yakhont, an anti-ship missile. To date it has not been intergrated on the MiG-29 as no customer has asked for it.
