Man, I love the game and debating to get TrackIR. Do people love it? Anything I should get in particular? Was the install and game recognition easy? Would you buy it again if you had to?

Any info is appreciated.

Many thanks!

i like it very much. install was a breeze. you download latest software from their webpage, install it, plug the device in and then update the games-profiles list.

i may be purchasing the headphone/set clip addon, because i dont like wearing hats that much.

being said that i love it, i wouldnt say its perfect per se. i cannot really lean outside to the left window alot, because it wont pick up the dots there anymore, no matter where i place it on my monitor. i think my monitor may be too close to my head tho.

Also its not "spot on", so theres a little "after-move" from the camera. donno how to put it :) - could be an effect of my cpu not being the newest technology maybe. not sure.

dont let that put you off buying it tho, its really good and it adds alot to the immersion of the game. would definitly buy it again :)

There have been a lot of threads/posts about this already, but in summary: Yes, it's great, it works perfectly in Black Shark. I'd recommend TrackIR 4 Pro with TrackClip Pro - the second bit clips to your headphones, and improves the usability and (supposedly) the detection in certain light conditions.

Install is a piece of cake - just the usual insert disk/press next a few times deal. You then do an automatic online update to get the latest game settings (including those for Black Shark). There's plenty of options to customize, but I just left the defaults for everything, except that I selected the box for the TrackClip Pro addon.

Learning curve is about 5 minutes - before I bought it I was dubious about how real it would feel because of the amplification. I thought it might be weird to move just a few degrees in real life to look behind you in cockpit. However, once you use it everything becomes second nature - it's really intuitive.

I'd buy it again if I had to, although I'd hide the receipt better before telling my housemates I couldn't afford to buy any food this month.

I think it is a frame-rate issue, yeah. Before doing the affinity fiddle and turning water down etc, my frame rate was much lower. Once I'd gotten it up to 30-40fps, the head tracking was much smoother-feeling.

yah i use the affinity tool, tho i dont get 30-40 fps througout. overlclocked my athlon64 x2 4200+ to 2400mhz per core and within cockpit i get between 10 and ~35 fps now. when i turn to the backpanel / where the adf list sign hangs, i usually get big fps drop aswell, having like 5 fps there.

maybe gonna get new computer sometime this year tho.

Love my TrackIR. Can't imagine playing games w/o it anymore. For flight simmers, particularly combat simmers, it's almost a necessity.

Dont' be afraid to fiddle with your settings and experiment with what will work for you. If you're unsure, follow the no.1 rule of pc fiddling - always make a backup of a profile that works.

Bear in mind that TrackIR is very light sensitive. So if you have a light source behind you, like a window, it'll play with your tracking. The first hour I got my TrackIR I seriously thought that they'd shipped me a defective one cos it wouldnt' track properly. I had a play around with everything and learnt what each setting does in about 30 mins.

I use both the trackclip + vector depending on if the missus is at home or not. They both work well.

Search to get a trackIr 3 with Vector. Might be cheaper then purchasing the latest version (if it's a budget issue).

Myself, very satisfied with it. I have to point out that I had awesome support from the natural point team (a major benefit).

Was worth every penny. The experience is almost like night & day.

I to have tir3 with track clip pro and it rocks. I seriously have forgot to turn on tir and I had a heck of a time flying, I ended up shutting the sim down just to start it up. That is how much a difference it makes.

Won't play BS without it.

Won't play rFactor without it.

Won't Play GRID without it.

Actually I won't play any "sim" without it.

That should pretty well convey what I think about it :)

Something you should remember as well. While it is very intuitive to use it still is a controller. As such the more you use it the better you get, the more you understand it the better you are in using it etc. It is simply impossible to play sims now without it. Look with a hat switch?? wtf

track IR gives me a head ache...i try to get adjusted to it...but i end up disabling it..

it is cool looking around, but when i try to focus on the HUD, it can be like a vertigo..

i suggest you try it out before buying it...

We've all been there, hannibal.

It takes a lot of training and getting used to, for some people more for some people less, maybe, but we all had these problems.

I suggest to only use 2 DOF for the beginning, looking left and right and up and down. In the beginning that is a lot easier than the full 6DOF!

I also recommend to disable roll, at least in the beginning. As you don't get the natural feedback of how the horizon should be, you only have your eyes, which have to switch between the cockpit horizon and the outer world horizon. That is pretty much to compensate if you are new to TrackIR.

Besides that, you should try to disable natural head movement (Windows-key + F1). If you feel dizzy already, it does not help if the view get's moved all by itself additionally to your own movements.

Other than that, I recommend reading through this little setup-guide ;)

Aha, so I am not the only one. Definitely gave me headaches, people didn't believe me and were hesitant to take it back, but they did (minus 15%).

I agree, try before you buy.

Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!

WynnTTr, would you say that the trackclip offers a slightly better tracking compared to the vector ? i think i read that from some people.

Vector tracks really well. I really don't notice the difference b/w the 2. I use vector when the wife is out, and crank up the volume on my surround sound.

If I really, really paid attention I'd say the clip does track slightly smoother, but only if you put your mind to it. In game it's not noticeable.

Just make sure you use light filtering in the tracking settings and adjust it for vector or clip - cos a setting for one will stuff up the other. Also remember to adjust the actual trackir unit for either... left side of the monitor for clip, center for vector.

Never gave me headaches. But then I've never had any probs looking at screens or playing fast moving fps.

It does to most of us. It needs training to get used to, for some of us it takes longer. That's pretty normal.

It took me more than 3 weeks and in the beginning I had to take breaks after each mission and I switched back to pan-view a lot of times.

It's worth the training, though, as much as going from keyboard/mouse-flying to joystick.
