Distiler Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) omg, wow. And that Tileproxy technology is just streaming yahoo or google maps at 30cm/pixel and it's opensource lol I have just read it's also available for other sims (not tileproxy, maps2bgl), also in non-stream and faster ways. Can a mod use those textures? (it will need real meshes also...) I just linked this to DCS mods forums ! Vekkinho Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Cool vid! Thanks for sharing A.S.! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
A.S Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Basically it should be possible to use tileproxy and maps2bgl to create a terrain mod for lomac....me thinks :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Terrain is nice... I tried use TP in FSX but never successfully. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
jpm1 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 ha , that streaming thing could make me play MSFS again . i abandoned FS i was too busy going on AVSIM & Fsim twice a day scared of missing the precious pearl , streaming the maps's a cool idea . Very nice vid SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

diveplane Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 i have fsx as well in a box. might install it after seeing this terrain https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
A.S Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Just few tips: It´s really important to read the tutorial carefully ( things like "different partition" .. "not in same folder as gamefolder" ..."correct settings in config-file" are really important). Furthermore, in your configfile you can specify which satelite-service to use ( .. like googlemap, yahoomaps, microsoft etc...). Some do provide better colors or resolutions on different areas.... so if you have a favorite area you can compare which service shows it best. http://www.flashearth.com/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Be warned, it takes buildings and trees out of the equation if you do use it. I think Ironhand is modding Hawaii with tileproxy and other sattellite images at the moment. A.S. is correct when saying its easy to set up...basically, you just put a # key next to the service you want to use (can only use one at a time).
deadsmell Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 What the heck, im gonna try this out. Its downloading now, the first file is 336mb and it takes about an hour from sourceforge (dont why it takes that long, but oh well). Ill post back when I get it running and share my first impressions. I almost uninstalled FSX a few days ago. Glad I didnt. This looks promising. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
hitman Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I also forgot to mention its a big PITA to install if you have Vista and SP1 since it requires you to install an unsigned driver. Im looking for the thread that solves this problem and Ill post here later...
Kuky Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I have a question... once the terrain over which you fly is downloaded does it stay on your HDD or does it have to be continuously downloaded every time you fly over that same terrain? PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
hitman Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 It stays on your hard drive by default, but the option is there to not have it download to your hard drive...it will just remain in memory until you close out or the cache is dumped. It will remain on the hard drive until you clean the cache manually if it is stored on the hard drive. You would want to clean this cache out once in a while since over time you can clog your hard drive up.
deadsmell Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Well, I thought I read everything, followed the guys instructions, but ive run into trouble right out of the gate. All im getting is black scenery/textures/tiles. Im running FSX, and I used the premade .ini file, and I tried to check it, (even though the author says it should work fine by default), but when i open the .ini file to check and make sure i dont have more than one map service going, i cant find anything that looks like the config thats supposed to be there. It may very well be there staring me in the face, but i dont know it. Im not the best with tinkering with files and stuff. Anyone got any ideas? thanks. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
hitman Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Run tleproxy from the start menu...do you get the cmd screen?

Yeah i saw that site earlier, but it wont even let me search without registering. I guess Im too lazy to register today.:music_whistling: Thanks though. Maybe i'll get it figured out tomorrow. soup55 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I have FSX installed now with a ton of add-on aircraft, but, haven't flown it for months because of Black Shark. I think I might give this a go! BTW, did anyone see the vid of Tim Conrad's Embraer A-29B Super Tucano flying over TileProxy Beta 8? Truly amazing stuff! Now I gotta try and get hold of that plane also! Thanks A.S for the links. deadsmell Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Ok, I got it working!! All I can say is wow. This is definitely one of those instances where the eye candy makes a HUGE difference. I was playing FSX earlier, and I was flying around a city i used to live in, and NOTHING looked familiar, now that i got this tile proxy thing going, it feels like im actually there, i can see all the old landmarks and stuff! I must say this is one of the coolest mods ever. I for surely have a reason to start taking more flights in FSX. it even improves the feel of the aircraft, i just took off in f-18, and went into a steep climb after take off, and the shiz looks frickin real. lol, i love it. does anyone play this online? ive never played it online, it says i have to register with this gamespy thing, is it free to play online? Dont let the smell get to ya...............
hitman Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Its free to play online...some servers allow other peoples paid for a/c to be displayed/downloaded by others too. They just cant fly it, and it only lasts for that one session. The other day I flew in a server dominated by WW2 bombers, I got to bring my B-36 in with me. Good stuff.
deadsmell Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Are there any other mods/add-ons that you guys recommend for fsx that will work well with this tile proxy? I figure i'll mostly be flying around America. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
