Swallow Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Dear Pilots Is there anyone who may support me in setting-up a VR system for DCS World (using Pico 4) in such a way that I can separate the VR application from normal operations without VR? I've seen a set-up guide who mentioned this by using the DCS.exe from the bin-mt folder (multi-threat)? My second question is whether it is recommended to use the multi-threat application rather than the "normal" dcs.exe which is located in the folder bin? Many thanks for your time and support and Happy New Year. Achim
Phantom711 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 You are mixing up things here. If you want to use the multithreaded version of DCS is up to you and has nothing to do with VR. If your question actually is, if you can execute DCS in VR / non-VR without going into the options and checking/unchecking the VR option, then yes, you can do that. Just create 2 shortcuts to the DCS.exe (either the ST one in the bin folder or the MT one in the bin-mt folder…up to you). Then open the properties of the shortcuts and add: —force_disable_VR or —force_enable_VR to the target lines. 1 vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.
Swallow Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 ..wow and many thanks. I guess that's what was explained in the tutorial. As a result there should be two "Saved Games" folders, one with and another one without the VR properties, isn't it? May I come back to the MT topic? What would be the advantage of using multi-threat? My system is quite performant with a EVGA 3080 Ti GPU and an i11900k CPU. Thanks again and have a nice party tomorrow. Kind regards Achim
slughead Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 I'm not quite sure what you want to achieve. However, I created two shortcuts for DCS. One with VR command line parameters and one without. So in effect, a VR shortcut and a 2D shortcut. Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. Available now! Slugmouse Demonstration Video
Lange_666 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Or you can use Skatezilla's Updater/Launcher app and get rid of those shortcuts and start everything (and a lot more) from within one app. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/134493-the-dcs-updater-launcher-gui-utility-version-20-2023/ Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. No. This is only the case if you actually have 2 separate installs. Personally I don‘t see much use for that, but some people might want to have a DCS stable install and one DCS Open Beta install. Multi-thread makes better use of the several cores of the CPU. So it should usually perform better. In the medium to long term DCS will certainly leave the ST version behind anyways. But what is it, that you actually want to achieve? I am still not sure, what your initial question was getting at? EDIT: Feel free to PM me in german if you like. diego999 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 (edited) The same installation can run both modes, 2D and VR. In my case with a Quest 2, if the headset is powered on and connected to the pc, DCS starts in VR mode on its own. Otherwise the game starts in "normal" 2D mode. If you want to have different graphics settings for 2D and VR, you can do that by presets in the graphic options screen. You don't need a separate install of the entire game.
Sile Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) You can have different presets and startup options with DCS Updater - someone already suggested that tool above. You can switch presets for 2D and for VR and have the launch options for 2D / VR in one handy tool. Ingame presets in the graphics options menu are also a way to fast switch 2D / VR graphics settings. (A disadvantage of the ingame presets in the graphics option screen might be, that some of them restart DCS...or is it only the "Fullscreen" option, not sure) Edited December 31, 2023 by Sile
