Schlomo1933 Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 As title says …. should the autopilot heading hold mode follow the heading bug in the VDI in real life? in DCS it’s doing nothing . But in the other sim the Heatblur Cat is doing this.

No, it can only hold the fixed heading as the name implies and should work with bank angle less than 5 degrees. Schlomo1933 Posted January 2, 2024 Author Posted January 2, 2024 (edited) ans why is the Heatblur Cat in the other sim able to do this ? i now its not possible to follow waypoints via ground track. but the dialed in heading via heading mode and heading bug should be possible Edited January 2, 2024 by Schlomo1933
Wingmate Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 The NATOPS for the F-14 says that HDG hold works by maneuvering the aircraft to the desired heading and then releasing the stick at less than +-5 degrees of bank angle. So my guess is the Heatblur Cat in the other sim is wrong if you are using the heading bug to set your autopilot. 4
Naquaii Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 The AFCS in the F-14 only has heading hold and ground track hold. Both work by navigating the aircraft to the desired heading or ground track and stop stick inputs with less than a certain degree of bank angle like mentioned. It has no function to follow the heading knob or bug. 3
Temetre Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Yup, its apparently realistic, the F-14 is just a bit weird in this regard. Its got less AP-functionality than some older planes like some of the F-4s or A-4s apparently. Or rather, the AP only works in some directed modes, like carrier landing and maybe some datalink control modes (IIRC not implemented or outdated for our F-14).

Because “the other sim” is using a primitive autopilot implementation back from version 4 or 5. In that product HDG only means Heading bug. It has no faculty to capture and hold a current heading. Some planes fake it by running an invisible HDG Bug 2 that snaps to the current heading. But in the current all online all locked down implementation of “the other sim” it’s difficult and unreliable. Like the rest of “the other sim”. And like it’s 2024 “half update” will also be. 2
