I'm new to this module and actually jets altogether as I'm a warbird pilot so if this is a dumb question answer it anyway. 😄

After you change waypoints and make a turn towards the new one the instructor instructs you to make a new steer point using the HUD and TDC then pressing the TMS up once. This does nothing and the lesson will not continue. Any thoughts?

I did make the MFD SOI and tried it using the cross and hitting the TMS to the right instead of up and I do get a box on the map but nothing on the HUD.

Thanks!

Which training mission is this exactly?

Also, can you confirm this affects the training mission for the old A-10C module specifically (instead of the the newer A-10C II module)? Because you put this into the subforum for the old A-10C module.
(It may not matter at all, because the 2 modules share a lot of training missions, but before we start looking at it, it's good to know upfront which of the 2 modules we're talking about)

To the above point, that doesn't make any sense. The TDC doesn't create a new steerpoint from the HUD, and TMS (Target Management Switch) Forward Short with HUD as SOI is Ground Stabilize, which does even less in terms of creating a steerpoint and/or a markpoint.

However, with HUD as SOI, DMS (Data Management Switch) Forward Short will increment the steerpoint from the currently selected waypoint database, which sounds closer to what you describe. Does the mission advance when you use DMS Forward Short here?

Just tested A-10C II Navigation Training mission and found no issues, it's important to follow the instructions: TDC must go to the very bottom of the HUD, TMS must be hold UP until designation. (this part of the training is only used to show both the TDI and TVV rappresentation on the HUD)

FWIW, it doesn't need to go to the very bottom of the HUD, just far enough down that the computer can reasonably calculate the slant distance.  At that point the "x" will be removed from inside the TDC to show it's a valid designation, and it will become ground-stabilized at that point.

Technically, I think the TDC (HUD) can be made SPI by pressing TMS Up long at any point, even before moving the TDC, but I have to admit I haven't tried this myself (or used the TDC much at all since the HMCS came out on the A-10C2!)
