Mi24 Petrovich Unable to Lock Targets in Multiplayer

Good evening,

I have noticed when flying specifically in multiplayer, Petrovich seems to lose his ability to find targets with the AGTMs. It seems intermittent, but I’ll have him look at an area where I can clearly see enemies, and he will never spot them. It seems to be whenever they are near smoke or a static object.

Here’s a post from 2021 reporting the identical issue

Not a video, we need a DCS track. In SP, you need to press the "Save Track" button in the debriefing window. In MP, tracks are automatically saved to Saved Games/DCS.../Tracks/Multiplayer.

Hind Targeting Issues.trkAttached is the track. You can see the first run-in with Petrovich I make is successful, but then the following run-ins, he does not detect any of the vehicles in the treeline.

Then, I put myself into a hover where the M1A2 Abrams and Humvees are blatantly obvious in eyesight, and try getting petrovich to target several times, which he never discovers the target, and then I finally end the mission.

This track was recorded in singleplayer, but this issue also occurred in multiplayer several times. I have also experienced this issue more than once in singleplayer, resulting in the missiles being unusable and requiring RTB.

I have tried to watch your track.

Please, when trying to report a bug via track, create a mission where everything is set, to make it as short as possible. Most of us don't want to watch you doing a start, taxiing, taking off and flying towards targets.

@Nathan3219 I replayed your track. It seems your gyro got boched. You can check this by switching to CPG seat.

To avoid this, you need to ask Petrovich to close the doors whenever you are about to tilt the aircraft in a turn.

It’s an intermittent issue. I’m not going to spend hours trying to create the issue when I might get two hours a week at most to play DCS. It occurred during this mission so I sent the track. I had a cut MP4 that was less than a minute long but was informed to send a track instead of a video.

Thanks for the reply! So when this issue occurs, just switch from PIC to CPG seat and back to PIC? Or is there a way to reset gyros in flight? In the meantime, I will check Chucks Guide and the manual for gyro procedures 🙂

Kinda selfish of you to expect others to spend time you are not willing to invest yourself.

Anyway. There is no procedure for that in Chucks guide. You need to jump to front seat, switch weapons down, wait for 3.5 minutes, switch it back up (you can use Petrovich for that) and after it warms up should be good to go.

My guess is that you turned away before closing sight and Petrovich did not manage to do it in time to preven gyro toppling. Never trust Petrovich to do that in time. Close it yourself (well, tell Petrovich to close before you bank).

My apologies if my response came off as rude. I posted within this subforum assuming that ED Support would be viewing the track and have additional tools to quickly review and troubleshoot, did not realize that it is fellow DCS enthusiasts helping each other (which is part of what makes this community so awesome!) I was viewing it as communicating with a paid IT/Dev Support rather than my fellow virtual pilots.

Anyhow, hope that clears up any miscommunication or negative tone that may have come from my prior comment. I would like to say that I appreciate your help, this is great since it’s been something I’ve been fighting with in the Mi-24 for some time now! Thanks for the tips - I’ll modify my tactics accordingly and remember this as a contingency in case Mr. Petrovich goofs up my gyros again. 🙂

No problem. When I said to power weapons down, I meant only Raduga part of it. You can still use gun/rockets while waiting.

One more thing I have noticed during your start. Do not switch AIRSPEED TO DOPPLER on. It will mess your DISS system. It's meant to be used as a backup in case of doppler damage.

The exact limits for toppling the gyro are 30 degrees roll, and seemingly around 10-20 degrees/s pitch/yaw rate

Sometimes when partly broken, you can still get Petro to target units on one specific side of your nose

Good to know, I didn’t even realize I was switching that on! That makes two new things I’ve learned about the Hind now, I appreciate your attention to detail 🙂
