Its_Mercury_NOR Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 When the Kola map releases, being able to mount the Penguin missile on the RNoAF F-16 will be crucial to make great missions imo. The Penguin works very similar to the Maverick in terms of operational use. I think most of my fellow scandinavians will agree. 2

But from what I understand it was never fitted to the F16s after the MLU upgrade in the late 90s early 2000s. And since our F16C block 50 is relatively close to the MLU F16s. I don't think it would fit(and ED has ruled out any equipment or weapon that wasn't on that one specific F16C from 2007 that they based their F16 on. 1 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

Northstar98 Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 I'd agree if we had an appropriate F-16A (though I guess the AI could be a stand-in). 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Tank50us Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Given that the Penguin is also a Helicopter launched weapon, maybe it could be be used from Helicopters that could reasonable launch it (not just those currently certified to launch it). Sure, it's unrealistic, but is it really a stretch to consider the possibility of an AH64 user retrofitting their Apaches to use an AShM they may have in abundance? Alternatively, we can also have its surface launched model as a Short-range Blue-Force counter to the Silkworm (A land-launched Harpoon would be the Long-ranged counter) 1

Some late cold war stuff or 90s stuff. 1 1 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

We already have it on the helicopter that can "reasonably" launch it - the SH-60B (albeit AI). 1 hour ago, Gunfreak said: Sure, it's unrealistic, but is it really a stretch to consider the possibility of an AH64 user retrofitting their Apaches to use an AShM they may have in abundance? Well, the only operator (at least AFAIK) who both operates Penguin and Apache is the US and they already have a far more appropriate helicopter to do the job than an Apache - again, the SH-60B. If I need a helicopter to do light anti-shipping duty and my choice is the SH-60B or the Apache, I'm going to choose SH-60B every single time. Not only is it more accurate, but it makes way more sense; the SH-60B has a long-range, surface-search radar, so it's far better suited to finding ships. 2 hours ago, Tank50us said: Alternatively, we can also have its surface launched model as a Short-range Blue-Force counter to the Silkworm (A land-launched Harpoon would be the Long-ranged counter) As far as I can tell, I'm not sure it has a land-based variant. I'm sure the surface-ship launched version could be adapted, but in that case I'd rather have the ship, such as an Oslo FF, which would fit perfectly on the upcoming Kola map. Though if you're after a coastal counterpart to the Seersucker, surely the MM38 Exocet Block 1 is a better fit? We already have a map where it would be accurate (even if somewhat anachronistic), we're probably getting a few naval assets that also fire it (Type 12I Batch 3A, Type 21, 22, County-class batch 2 all fire it) and for nearly 3 years we've had a naval unit that should fire it, but inaccurately fires Harpoon. 1 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Apaches never was capables to carry the Penguins. Only was a "plan" to a SeaApache to the Marines with never reach with AGM-84 Harpoon capability. The SH-60B Seahawk ASW was capables to use the AGM-119 Penguin missiles on Block 1 versions on 1993. The Penguin was retired from service on 2003, remain only AGM-114K Hellfires, from 1999. SH-60B was retired from service from Feb 10 - Jul 15. Last deployment returns Apr 15 (USS Gary - O. H. Perry class FFG). MH-60R Seahawk ASW never was capable of carry Penguins, only agm-114K hellfire, and APKWS on 2015. About SA units, RAZBAM was a MM38 Exocet on progress, on ship versions and land based battery. The problem, all weapons go to the ED side. 3rd Parties will not implement them.
