By the time the M concept was taken up, Spain was using the F1 as a mud mover far more often than an interceptor. The main focus was cockpit modernization and added bombing capabilities by upgrading the same radar with ground ranging and better ground mapping. Spain joined NATO and obtained F18s in the early/mid 80s and thus the transition in the F1s role. I get the disappointment, but M should still be a fabulous airframe, especially with Aerges at the helm.

its just kind of a shame that its not gonna be a much better a2a fighter...

The only F1 that got a change in A/A performance was the MF2000 with a RDY Radar (smaller antenna) and can use the Mica missiles with a upgraded engine. 

All the others flew with the 530F as their primary fox 1, the Spanish F1s were outdated even when they bought them (except the CE) and a proper E variant would fit DCS better but since this is french tech don't expect that anytime soon.

The best of both world would to have a EH-200 same INS as the EE but with the VE120C HUD and PCAM and fuel probe.

You still have 530F... its on level of 7F at altitude and beats R-27R. Be happy for what it is now. It should get only worse. Properly simulated radar will hamper its AA performance, especially in lookdown scenarios or at low altitude. 
If aerges manages to fit missile limits in module itself, you can forget about radar missiles at deck level or in shood down. The missiles are incapable of that.

Chaff can be dealt with by filters, some logic and range gating in lock. Clutter on the other hand, mainly strong sidelobes, are issue for MTI. And esp for cyrano and its design.

Nerf? No... Just proper stimulation of pulse radar with barely working MTI and only pulse guided missiles.

That's my perception too. I have several mates waiting for M, simply out of laziness to learn how to bomb without a computer assistance an the GPS navigation. When they release the M they will sell many modules as in the release.

Funny you say that... I really like the idea of the F1M but I find more and more I love the simplicity of the F1CE. I wish it was more capable, but as it is it's a nice fun platform to fly. I don't have to worry about TADS screens or SADL info. It's very old-school. Push a button, fire a weapon. Don't get me wrong I love the digital screens on the F-16 and A-10C, but the F-1CE is like a guilty pleasure. I don't have to wait for INS warmup for 10 minutes like some planes.

 

Okay, I do miss a moving mission map. That's just an awesome SA tool, but it's still cool.

Well it's the simple things sometimes I have a newborn like I don't want to miss because I'm flying 30knts to slow at 3 degrees off optimum angle when I only have 30 minutes to fly lol

I have high hopes for the Mirage F1M. It will replace my M2k.
I don't get to fly that much anymore, but when I have time, I just want to be able to sit in it and get started.
I mainly use the Hornet, but yes, until everything is set up correctly and the weapons are configured, it's more pleasant to press a few switches and buttons.
And what's really cool is that you don't just have one plane, but several versions of it.

After a closer look at the screenshots (no idea whether these still correspond to the current model after all these years), it looks like the green radio of the F1M is comparable to the currently available versions of the F1. The red radio on the other hand seems to contain pushbuttons similar to the green radio in the M2000. So there seem to be more setting options than the current limitation to presets only in the red radio.

What I find interesting is that the back of the gun sight camera in this photo contains green indicators as well as new pushbuttons. To me these green writings look like lots of little display elements or controls.

It seems to me that the F1M contains several small improvements over the currently available versions. In addition to CCIP / CCRP, a radar altimeter and GPS would relieve the pilot of some of the manual work and an NVG-compatible cockpit would offer new application possibilities.
